Did they lock the ROMs?
7Zip will no longer open the .pak files....

Nor with Linux's unzip, and I know for sure it worked back in May.
There goes the last redeeming quality of the collection.

Thanks for verifying it...

That's really unfortunate. I know why they do it but I wish the industry would move toward making ROMS more accessible to players rather than less. There are some great companies that do here on Steam and elsewhere, but I wish more of the companies that were big players in the 80s and 90s would.

Who cares if they are locked or not... You paid for those ROMS right? Then you can pretty much get a copy somewhere else of that ROM that you already paid for...

When my PS3 died i was not able to backup some games that i got in the PSN store, one of them was CVx HD... I got a backup somewhere, from my point of view it's OK because for all the purpose i own that game, i still have the receipt for it..

As far as I know, downloading from "elsewhere" is still illegal in some countries. Plus, who knows what these files or the sites themselves come packaged with.

Being able to compile the ROMs from the DLCs was probably the most legit way of getting quite a few of these games' ROMs without having to own the original arcade machines.

There are places that are safe to get roms.

I have an original Mortal Kombat Rev 5 T unit. So instead of dumping them i found the roms for my board. Just to name one, i have other arcades boards that i never dumped the roms.
I just get the same roms that are inside my arcade boards.
Same with the consoles.

In the case of this collection, i got the whole pack. Even some games that i already own. So in my mind im not doing anything wrong in getting the same rom files i already paid for.

I am mad they did what they did. People paid for the bundle and how did it hurt them for paying customers having the ROMs?

Sega let the Sega Genesis ROMs loose to paying customers...

This will just upset more people and deter them from buying these bundles.

Yeah, and look where that went. The Workshop for that collection is full of piracy and became unmanageable.

It's awesome when developers make their ROMS available. There are lots on Steam that have, but when it's one of the big name developers they don't because it's their products that are going to be on the ROM sharing sites. It's their products that are going to be part of the bootlegged "Mini Console 626 GAMES!" systems on Facebook marketplace.

Preventing customers who paid for the games from having the ROMs isn't going to prevent people from getting them for free...

Why would someone spend $41+ to get ROMs to give them away when there are sites giving them away for free?

To be clear, I'm totally on the side of making ROMs available to customers. I'm merely stating a "This is why we can't have nice things" argument, not an argument for why we shouldn't get them.

It's kind of backwards for Capcom to restrict paying customers from ROMs when they could've just downloaded the ROMs and paid Capcom nothing.

I've played the emulator over hours. All I want is to play the games on my Tablet. How that hurts Capcom when I paid them already is beyond me.

I buy MP3s and play them on my tablet and PC. Even the greedy music industry allows that...

How Capcom is preventing piracy by restricting paying customers is beyond me,

Yeah, and the Arcade game lovers have it the worst because it isn't like we can just go out there and buy the arcade cabinets (most of us anyway). This is really a market that could use a bit more good faith. We don't really have any way to play these games except through emulation or expensive, space-taking hobbies.

I don't know about the legal aspects of that, but I at least agree with this from a moral standpoint.

What an utterly pointless thing to do.

I do it from a moral standpoint and i think that 99% of those who buy old boards do it either from a moral point or because they like to collect old boards.

I'm all about them re releasing those old arcades games even if i own the boards or cartridges. I also got Metal Slug 1 and 2 mvs cartridge yet i got the re re release done by dot emu.

So from my point of view, i'm not doing anything wrong when i get a copy of the files i already paid a lot of times.

Also sometimes the PC release have nice things, for example i made a bartop for MK games and i'm using the bezels that came with the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection
