I was worried that the move to F2P would mean I wouldn't be able to play offline anymore, but that seems to not be the case (I completely disabled my PC's internet connection to check, and the offline mode was still completely functional).
Honestly, I don't understand what the big idea is. This is a fun game, but it has no longevity. There's not much to progress towards besides levelling up weapons and getting new cosmetics. Unlocking new skills and such takes no time at all and there's next to no reason to get the premium currency, not now and not before it was F2P.
I think that instead of making it F2P they should've gone back to the drawing board and worked on a 2.0 update (or better yet, a paid expansion) with perhaps new modes, new meta progression systems, an overhauled shop, etc. While this game is fun for a while, it lacks that special something that keeps people coming back, so much so that it died shortly after it released on Steam and this transition to F2P isn't pulling in big numbers either.
^This. A paid expansion would've done way better for the game than the vane hope that making it free would bring about more players 'cause at least the players who did like it would likely return. They're infamous for abandoning their game though, and I honestly abandoned the game once I realized there was no continued support or cross-progression. They market it once every blue moon but that's all the "support" it's gotten in years. Makes me sad 'cause it still has lots of potential, they just like wasting their efforts on other games that don't do as well either. Classic case of spreading themselves too thin for a smaller company and execs telling them to 'move on 'cause there's no money to be had here'. I'm hesitant to call this game "niche" but there's not even a single mod for it. Sucks.
