IDirect3D9_CreateDevice failed

EDIT: I've discovered that I can play it using an Administrators account apparently, so it's all good now, the black bars at the sides of the screen using the Widescreen fix are still mildly distracting, but only mildly so my problem is sorted :) I won't delete the original post so people with the same problem can read through it and hopefully fix it.

Original Post:

When I try to run the game the screen flashes black a few times very quickly and then the error message pops up: "IDirect 3D9_CreateDevice failed, please re-run settings application".

It was working a few days ago, I ran it with all settings full except for Anti-Aliasing to stop the flickering graphical glitches.

I then downloaded the widescreen fix but wasn't fond of how the black bars at the side looked and so attempted to get rid of the new files I placed into the cache, and tried to get rid of them. I think that's when it started, so I've tried re-installing, rebooting etc. I've also turned all settings down and unticked all boxes in the Advanced settings, but nothing seems to be working.

I can't change resolution either, there are literally no options to change to, when I open the Resolution option box it's just empty, but that happened the second time I played the game and has allowed me to change since.

EDIT: Okay... I've put the files back in, the error no longer appears, but the games taskbar appears and then disapears a moment after and nothing actually loads, any ideas? I've tried verifying the integrity of the game cache too, but nope..

Anyone else with this problem should probably wait for the 20th Anniversary edition ;) See you guys a decade from now at the 30th anniversary!
