this game it is way too vague.
doesn't explain things that are happening on screen at all.

vague puzzles that have random symbols and characters that are not explained to the player this is not for all the games in this game but I've played one where you have to do a DNA sequence and it didn't explain anything and it was way too vague.

That's mostly why im refunding I thought the puzzles are gonna get more fun and interesting but it seemed like they just got more and more vague as the game went on

allso there this weird system where you're not allowed to play each game on 1st boot up you have to download them in the game for lore reason this reason takes up 20 to 15 minutes each game download in game it is real time by the way you can't just skip this timer.
Some games do take like 4 minutes to install but the later ones take 20 minutes to install.
I could be wrong about the timings on these but I know it does take a long time to download these games in game

I really like the concept. I have a definite nostalgia for the old days of BBSing & waiting on dial-up internet... but the download quota enrages my ADHD brain... and the waiting elements are not gamified in any way as far as I can tell.

The only way I can recommend this game is if you have a lot of patience for waiting around, really can't get your nostalgia fix any other way, or are a young'in wondering what computers were like on the cusp of pre-internet.

(there's a definite missed opportunity here for providing on-BBS terminal games or activities you can do while waiting for content to download or the download quota to refresh -- or even providing more than one BBS to play around in to juggle quota timeouts)

HACK*MATCH too hard

I tripped across the not-picross minigame first and was really excited what else it would have.

I was so disappointed by this game.

Not because it's a bad game; quite the opposite. For what it is, I think "Last Call BBS" is excellent. No, the problem once again lay with my own expectations. The game was described as a nostalgic adventure, a return to the classic bulletin board systems of yore; a narrative entwined around an exploration of the BBS community. I expected door games, downloads, chat, all to the sound of a 9600 baud modem and visualized through 256-color VGA graphics.

But "Last Call" is really a handful of logic puzzles that rather clumsily unlock somebody else's memories of that era. There's only the single, eponymous BBS to visit; there's no community, and no real exploration. The logic puzzles themselves are rather clever and, unlike many other games, these aren't pale clones of pre-existing games. Some real thought has gone into making each puzzle game unique. The games themselves are often brutally difficult though, not helped by the minimum of instruction offered toward both what the goal is and how to win. But if you're in the mood for some mind-twisting puzzles, then it's hard not to recommend "Last Call".

But, as I indicated, that was not what I was searching for. I was hoping for something with more story, more character, more progression. If you're not a lover of logic games the reward - a slow revelation of your host's history exploring the early era of computers and online services - really is not worth the effort.

This is sort of an homage to computing in the old days with dial up, and it made me realize i dont miss anything about it.

tl;dr Last Call BBS feels like all of Zachtronics abandoned ideas put into one final package. Play something else.

Duration: I spent 26 hours in this one. Obtained 7 of 9 achievements. I'm calling this one done.
Enjoyment: low to high

Last Call BBS contains 8 different “games” within it. The best is easily 20th Century Food Court which is a good Zachtronics puzzle game. I spent about half my time working through the different puzzles within. The remainder of the “games” range from mediocre to downright blah. Consequently, Last Call BBS is one of Zachtronics weaker titles. I’d rather play Infinifactory or go back and play through SpaceChem again. Consequently, I can't recommend this one.

This game (along with Eliza and Molek-Syntez) has me wishing Zachtronics had called it quits a few years before they did. On the minigames on offer here, the only one that's remotely fun is 20CFC; the rest are well behind the flash games that Zach was doing pre-Spacechem.

I consider myself somewhat of an enthusiast of "the good ol' days", which for me were the early to mid 90s when I was a teenager and computers were a wonderful mystery. I have a decent collection of retro machines and consoles to satisfy my needs for retro gaming whenever I am in the mood. So, in a sense, I am not the right target audience for Last Call BBS.

The game (or rather: this emulation of a fantastical retro OS with a number of small games) is very slick and stylish, but unlike the "real" retro games of my youth (you know, the ones with emotional attachment, yadda yadda) the collection of games included here are utterly boring. I "downloaded" about six games (of however many there are), spent the waiting time with Solitaire, loaded up the downloaded game only to realize after 1-2 quick plays that it does not interest me at all, wait for the arbitrary download restriction timer (15 min!) to end by loading up Solitaire again. At least that game is fun, but it's really not worth paying 20 € for. I had some fun playing the monster labyrinth puzzle game (forgot its name) for about 10 levels before losing interest, but everything else was just not my style.

I am sure I played similar games as shareware titles in the 90s (with vastly inferior graphics, granted) and I am also sure I didn't play them for long. In the end, for me personally, this was a waste of money. I am happy that others are getting a lot of mileage out of it, though, as the idea overall is neat and retro gaming should always be supported.
