Report a translation problem
Once you hold it down, then you walk towards the guy you are trying to steal from. You have to actually touch the guy and be in contact with him for at least like ~2 seconds. Then stealing is complete.
The mechanics is annoying, but this is how i've done it.
WRONG! Do not right click at all. Just get close then simple press SHIFT. Well Hold it down.
When near enough and you stretch out your hand Altiar starts walking in a zig-zag line which is annoying as you need to make Altiar's hand contact the little pouch on the target. Someone above mentioned maintaining contact for 2 seconds but I think getting Altiar's hand on the pouch is what triggers a successful pickpocket.
I think this is the only game with pickpocket missions, but all the AC games that I own (AC1 AC2, Brotherhood & Revelations) have the detection system. However, I don't think any are as brutal as during the pickpocket investigations.
