Blend action on the other hand is used for becoming invisible to guards if you want to pass by them unnoticed. Blending is not walking and slows you down considerably. Use it only when you want to move undetected.

It's been a while since I've played and was working from memory / manual reference.
I've amended my original post to reflect that the two commands are indeed separate.
