Skip the storyline
Hello, I was wondering, when you skip the storyline (therefore ignoring the e-mail and thus the whole plot), what happens next, does the game ever end ? By that I mean, does the plot still take part and if so, who wins, ARC or Arunmor ? I never managed to get far enough since I always get caught at some point.

Thanks

If you don't wanna get caught make InterNIC your first bounce (make sure you have the admin password cracked so you can go in and delete logs after every mission). As far as the plot situation I never really "beat" the game back when I used to speedrun it. I infected 20 servers then the whole internet would just crash and that would be the end (GG). If you delete the email (if I remember) you can still start the plot. You have to have an ARC server as your second to last bounce then the ARC server you connect to (before you add the second to last bounce ARC server to your list of IPs in InterNIC it should be at the top of your connection list at the main screen) Then just connect to it. Log in and it should have a username and pass ready for you. After that then just delete your logs and wait a few days to have ARC send you an email about you getting into their servers (this one you should be able to reply to if not wait a few more days then you should be able to get and email to accept a job) at that point you will get an email from Arunmor saying they want the virus so they can build an anti-virus for it.

Probably lots of spelling errors and punctuation errors. Tried to make it as short as possible :P

If you have any more problems don't be afraid to add me I can help ya out :)

Thanks, but I know how not to get caught, it's just that sometimes I forget to delete the logs even though I know that I should. Also, I don't want to start the plot, I just want to know what happens if you don't start it.

Thanks for your reply.

if you ignore storyline: Arunmor will win, but some servers will be infected by "Revelation".
accept Arunmor storyline, but don't compkete their tasks: Arc will win => Game ends
accept Arunmor storyline and complete some tasks: Arunmor will develop Faith strong enough to resist Revelation

Great, so accept ARC storyline, but don't complete task, Arunmor wins.

Thanks

Technically, you are beating the game with the bad ending, just not by going through the entire storyline - you just get Revelation and skip to Grand Tour without Arunmor having had time to develop Faith to stop you.

There's never really been that big of a speedrunning community for the game. I'd only ever known of three others who ever even attempted it. Out of curiosity, what's your best time? And do you have a video of it online, by any chance?

My time was somewhere in the 22 minutes. I streamed it but I never really highlighted any runs. I gave it up because it was 99% RNG based. But... If your first bank hack had 300k+ then you would have saved 3-4 minutes maybe even more. Hey if you wanna race it on SRL just add me on here. It's been a while but I might still have the chops to sub 25 it :P

Yeah, well, I managed to start the storyline. I was on ARC's side. At the end of my third mission, Faith was v4.1 whereas, Revelation was only v 3.00 . I got disavowed by Uplink for working for ARC all of a sudden. Don't know what I did wrong. Now , I gotta start again :'(

99%'s a bit of an over-exaggeration, hehe. Certainly, I'm getting rather frustrated trying to get a new PB/WR because of the RNG (only doing one bank hack rather than two would save me about 2 minutes), but I'm sure I've said over on SDA's forums in the past that no matter how badly the game screws you over it actually seems to be marathon-safe and could be done in 30 minutes or less (not that I'm ever likely to attend a *GDQ marathon but someone else who knows the game might)

I wish I could get the kind of luck I had when I was first streaming run attempts - it only took me half an hour (and just four resets) to get a time of 15:50, and I've never managed to come close to that ever since. I think with perfect luck a time in the region of 13:00 to 13:30 might be possible, but it'd be a nightmare to try and get a time like that. Should have submitted the 15:50 to TSSB rather than wait in hope of beating it; 9 months later, still no luck...ah well.

Yes, I actually managed to understand your post. At the time of my last post, (which is quite a long time ago), I did not finish the storyline, therefore I did not get the badge. I have not played Uplink since, but I will eventually get back to it.

Amazing. I just did a Google search about how to not get disavowed for working for ARC and the top search result was this very thread. Unbelievable how I never managed to successfully beat the ARC storyline.

It's impossible for the game to continue if you choose to work for ARC. If you are unsuccessful in infecting enough machines then Uplink pull the plug on you for working for ARC and disavow you. If you are successful then Revelation goes beyond critical mass and destroys the Internet, also resulting in a game over.

The only way for the game to continue after the story is if you either don't get involved, or work for Arunmor, both of which end in the same way; Revelation is halted by Faith and ARC are shut down.
