UplinkOS mod forces a save when you quit. if you're not using that then AS WITH ANY GAME make sure you save properly before you quit. There is no way to help you

UplinkOS and Onlink are both great mods. Should thoroughly try both at some point.

Will do! Thank you very much. :) Btw I'm having a hard time hacking The social security thing because of lack of time. Any tips?

Having admin passwords for a computer slow down the progression rate of an active trace. So try to keep passwords for as many computers as possible. Also the obvious plan of just having a LOT of bounces. Of course you should have also upgrade any CPUs you have to 200ghz chips so that you're not trying to use a potato to hack a gov site.

What saves?! I thought game continuously puts immediate state to disk if you turn computer off and restart uplink it continues from where you were right when you turned computer off... :o

Nope. I've more than once intentionally crashed Uplink when something happened to prevent it from saving when I quit. That way I only have a minimal loss of progress instead of catastrophe.

Interesting. Because I keep making copies of current save/state file on disk so that I can return to exact time in game when I made copy and it worked every single time (over three dozen occasions) with vanilla game... both on Win7 and Linux. I did exit from uplink modem (gateway) each time though.

Yes exiting your current game (going back out to the main menu) SHOULD trigger a save which would be a perfect time to save scum. Which is exactly why I said I would CTD uplink if i did something stupid to avoid triggering a save. I dont save scum because its too much effort. I'll just avoid overwriting my save by crashing the game intentionally.

My original reply was probably too vague. When I said the OP should save properly I was referring to quitting the game and returning to main menu where you can choose which account to play with. This is the point vanilla uplink reliably saves (and when you save scum). UplinkOS on the other hand reliably saves even if you dont disconnect from the uplink gateway (go to main menu) and just straight quit to desktop.
