why are there no REAL reviews for this?
Only reviews I can find are the garbo reviewers that review shovelware and crappy indie games and say every single game is "good" no matter how mediocre it really is

Cause only children want to play a lego version of a good game.

Honestly, I'm surprised there aren't more complaints about the graphics. I've played loads of voxel games that look just fine, but that model outline is awful. The irony is that a map comprised of blocks should look super sharp and yet the post processing used in this game just gives everything a nasty, greasy blur.

Not lego, voxel, voxel allows them better destruction and a surprising amount on the screen with no slow down. Combined with SP ability/abilities it is like playing EDF meets dynasty warriors. It's a blast.

Very few people actually bought this compared to previous EDF games, I can imagine that means very few reviews too.

or people who like edf?
i really dont care about the graphic style, edf was never a game you played for the graphics.

I like the voxel style. I don't like how they went cheap with it. Voxel is meant to be destructible in ways other games can't. They don't do that here, at least with the enemies. If the aliens were to break into parts or pieces this game would have been a lot more impressive. As it stands either the enemies are alive and whole, or dead. No inbetween like previous EDF games that showed damage.

Don't listen to those bullies on the playground at school, if you say the game is fun you should play it.

I'm pretty sure OP was calling it mediocre. Honestly the game has a lot of problems, and it is worth watching a lets play before buying. At the very least the negative reviews to balance the positives.

having played the last 3 or 4 EDF games and followed the earlier games, I honestly think this is the most fun EDF game i've played.
the concept of having a squad of 4 unique characters with different abilities is sweet, then when they upgrade you can equip other weapons on them which adds to the variations.

then in co-op it's not a player per soldier, it's a squad per player so there's even MORE variations/possibilities.

also, who cares about the graphics... EDF games look like an asset flip anyway.

the level variety is also a bit more varied this time, probably due to being voxels so they can be made quickly

It's super fun, but it has some technical issues including mouse controls being fundamentally screwed on PC. Mouse sensitivity is too low even at max, mouse acceleration doesn't behave correctly, and the mouse just randomly decides to not work with random dead zones. Yeah it's cutesy and the art is strange but the translation of EDF mainline to this art really isn't that jarring for me. I hopped in and it felt like an even quicker to pickup version of EDF. Missions don't spend a lot of time waiting around for in game dialog, the maps are smaller which ends up being more frantic, the team system makes the game super dynamic as you can switch between classes on the fly, the different world brothers have been fun so far, spartans, cowboys, catgirls, astronauts, and members of other games. I really dig it, the mouse thing is killing me though.

Lots of people don't like the price, and frankly I don't know how long the game is going to be, but so far it feels like other EDF games so I can see myself getting lots of mileage out of it as long as the hard mode presents a real challenge.

not to mention the absolute destruction and chaos of having special moves n stuff is super fun
What constitutes a "real" review in your eyes? All reviews are intrinsically subjective anyway, no matter how accurate they may (and should) strive to be informationally.

As for mediocrity... the entire EDF series is, some would argue, the epitome of mediocrity and niche appeal that manages to still work for those who love it. Or at least, "So bad it's good" double-A tier gaming. They certainly haven't ever been, or striven to be, massive AAA high production value experiences.

Their lineage is the "Simple Series" of low priced budget games D3 publishes in Japan. They are repetitive games that reuse assets, and get lots of mileage out of absurdity, simplicity, and grinding. Sure, we EDF fans may love them, but the games themselves tend to get 6's and 7's from critical reception and... that's pretty fair.

This game is just a fun, goofy take on the series in voxel form. Something of a simplified love letter to the series as a whole. It's just a good bit of fun, and like the rest of EDF, not something worth overanalyzing.

I do enjoy the core Sandlot developed games the most, of course. Like most EDF fans.

It will be an enjoyable above average game when they fix the mouse issue, but is it EDF? No, it fails at the charm of EDF just like Iron Rain did, they just pulled back too hard from one end to go too far the other. For others who aint EDF fans it's fine if they use a controller but I'm waiting for a real EDF from it's actual devs
