Okay, so uh... what actually /was/ the story to this?

I enjoyed the game, but I cannot make sense of anything that happened. Is it some sort of time loop or something? Like, you hatch from a cocoon, and immediately start running around and killing a bunch of... guardian deities? I guess? And then you become some sort of eldritch creator god, and create the universe you just finished exploring, only to be destined to die by the hand of your own prior self?

I'm not sure of the story either, though I love the game, if what you outline appeals to you in any way, should give Outer Wilds a try.

At one point, you don't really fight one of the deities, it seems to test you with the white orb, giving back your orbs as you progress and then you play pong and kill it without much resistance... it seems like it was just testing you

Played Sea of Stars recently, when I got to that part I was like, you cannot defeat me mate.

I took it literally, as in "cocoon" meaning transformation, growth, change and renewal. Changing the world as you change oneself and all that
