downloaded today, no update pending
also my "unique" name disappeared and I just got random numbers for name, as well as my friend
Yeah they've got a weird thing going on there. Hopefully they bring usernames back. It still says your user name in game in the top right corner, so I wonder why it's gone? Probably some code issue they'll smooth out
The EOS laucher thing though... I have no idea how to help that issue, it shouldn't be there. Maybe try contacting support? Or check the integrity of the game files?
It should have updated
If I run a "Verify Integrity" check, an EpicOnlineServices folder gets added (I had previously deleted it to check, but EOS ran anyway)
Seems deleting the EOS folder had no effect
is it perhaps due to other connections? game thinks it's linked maybe, or happening to have Epic installed?
I thought maybe the .ini file but nothing notable in there.
Any ideas appreciated, although to be honest, I feel like giving a ♥♥♥♥ about EOS on a Denuvo (sp?) game feels ridiculous, lol
With Epic account, you can invite people from Xbox, Nintendo, PS and of course Epic players to Steam version.
Velan Studios said sometime that they were forced to add Epic account on their Steam game as it were the only way to get cross-play between all systems.
Wouldn't this be incorrect though?
A couple games I can list off the top of my head with crossplay that don't require an additional account outside of steam:
Dead By Daylight
Apex Legends
Brawlhalla
No Mans Sky
Destiny 2
Sea of Thieves (This one I'm 50/50 on, I don't remember ever making an account for it, but apparently you need one despite it using my steam username.)
None of these have cross-play using Steam account only.
You have to manually link each a system to the official site for each game, so Steam account isn't used for cross-play in Destiny 2 for example.
Epic have a system so you don't need to link accounts manually everywhere. Epic merges all linked accounts in to one no matter what online game you play.
Sea of Thieves uses same Xbox account as any other Microsoft game.
As for UBI, EA etc.. You link Steam to UBI / EA, but UBI/ EA takes care of the cross-play, not Steam.
