While you're absolutely correct, I'd agree with OP's sentiment; no way this game is releasing in 'Spring' . In fact I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't emerge until at least Q4 , if not 2026.
One dev update every few months, the most recent of which (this month) says they are 'implementing and optimizing certain features, improving the save system, and welcoming and guiding new members into our team.'
From the numerous dozens of EA games I've followed in the last 10 years, most of what they said in their last post screams 'We're at least 6-9 months away from EA release, if not more'
I lost interest quite a while ago, after finding the game in 2022 and then seeing how extremely slow and vague the development has been. None the less its an interesting case study, amusing to check in every now and again to see how/if they're attempting to keep the game relevant when its clearly still way out.
Yup :/
Imo developers should only be allowed to make a steam page and hype their game as coming soon if its max 2 years or less from release. Making the Nivalis page in 2022 and then constantly drip feeding vague updates and non-specific delays is just a bad look for the devs, publishers and to some extent, Steams reputation.
TL:DR If your game has literally just begun development and is 4-5+ years away, dont take the p**s and hype it up like its an imminent release we should all be eagerly waiting for.
So hey maybe!
Of course I want to know when the game will be out, but announcing a release date that can't be kept is lying to people. It can also be difficult to understand how much additional time is needed.
On the other hand, while there wasn't a release date, there was a window. I would hope more details could be provided explaining the change. I suppose it is not typical of the industry to do that, though.
I agree I'd rather them be ready vs continuing to miss release dates/windows but also it'd put the player base more at ease if the Studio would actually communicate with people with some regularity. I see questions here, Discord and Bluesky go unanswered indefinitely, even ones unrelated to "game release when?". The (mostly) radio silence from the Studio, save a once/mo barely update of the progress, I think is what's irking people the most.
