riot troopers?
how useful are these guys? on one hand their mix of stun and damage is nice, on the other they cost intel for something that isnt exactly durable amd seems to want to be spammed.

They are trash
So situational as to be practically worthless.

Useless. Maybe it could be useful in MP against people who like to use infantry rush tactics.
But even there it is useless considering how much upgrades you need to even unlock them. At that point you are basically already crushed.

In campaign or skirmish vs AI, they are really worthless.
useful as meat shield (large hp) when you have gather enough intel. use the emp grenade when facing vehicle. useful only by combining with other unit like drone operator.

I can honestly say I have never even trained 1.

the only time i use them is with the riot van drop support powers, otherwise, waste of resources

In the theory - are not grenadiers better for this situation?

If You switch them to ranged mode - they have EMP attack, which paralyse enemy vehicles - and Riot Troopers do not cost credits, just intel. this is actually useful in practice, like support unit.

But for melee anti-infantry attack, I do not find it usefull in practice.
You can sprinkle a few into your drone operative army to help deny crushes with EMP, otherwise they don't really have much use.

I would suggest to remove "alternative attack mode" (RA3 design) and merge both attacks by default. melee attack on infantry and emp grenadies on vehicles / turrests.

What do You think, guys?

Preventing crushes with heavy inf proved to be a pipe dream and I don't find that it happens IRL.

i would be behind this. the system is in game because dynasty troopers do the same thing with their grenades. my real issue is the intel cost. when i would want them its too much compared to abilities or tech, when i have enough they no longer fill a role i need. it seems most people came to the conclusion i have.
