ITS INSANELY HIGH
It really isn't hard to hit that pop cap but it is going to largely depend on how you play RTS's in general.
I don't play PvP. I don't bother with any kind of "meta" or whatever. I just play against AI for my own enjoyment and a single game can last a couple of hours. Once you start really taking control of the map and you have to start spreading forces out, you will find that it isn't hard to hit that pop cap pretty easily.
If anything. I hope that they eventually add some kind of option to set the pop cap to higher amounts if desired. That way, those who want quicker games can have them while those that want larger, slower games can have some flexibility to tailor the experience.
I kind of get it for MP though. To keep the focus on strategy
It's there for performance iirc.
Except, famously, for CnC. Which is what this game was trying to be the spiritual successor of.
Ashes of the Singularity dont have a cap.
Original CnC games didnt have pop caps. It as never a thing and for all intents and purposes, this IS a CnC game.
Whilst it doesnt ruin the experience for me it does diminish it. You can not forget that a great number of people got this game because nostalgia and pop cap is a hallmark of almost any other RTS title.
Also talking about a franchise of games that came out like 20 years ago now lol. I also personally dont ever recall sitting in my base for 2 hours to produce 500+ tanks either so im not sure how often no pop cap actually mattered to most C&C gamers lol. Income generation in the older C&C games was much slower than anything made recently. Sort of population controlled itself via the economy rate
