This is Not for Single player Playing
Unfortunately this Demo has convinced me that it is based around Online Competitive Play. Despite all the Tech, Doctrines and Lore stuff etc. It comes down to a Major Click Fest, even in Skirmish against Bots. The AI (Normal/ Hard) is impossible for new and typical players to compete against. The Skirmish Bots expect you to be aggressive, build Lost of Refineries, Factories, and Spam as fast as you can. You End up in a tedious Spam fest, but will typically lose.

If you like Multiplayer, and one of those "Get Gud" guys you will love it. For the new and casual RTS Single player, this is not going to work out.

Normal is tough, especially if you're overly passive and allow it to branch out all over the map; but I'm a very "average" player at best, and I've managed to beat it several times.

I think you just need to take time to practice. The Easy AI makes for a great practice dummy!

For whatever it is worth, I agree that this seems to be focused on a future competitive player base, which as we all know works out great for brand new properties...

The limits to your strategic options don't seem to help, either. If you aren't cranking out the bigger army quicker you basically may as well quit.

What you're saying only really applies to this demo and not the full release coming.

There is going to be a single player campaign. Main reason I'm getting the game.

There will be easier AI options added, as well as harder. The devs responded to some complaints and said they're working on it. Hard AI is too easy, and Easy AI is too hard.

You will be able to play custom games with friends, or name custom public games like "noobs only" or "chill game, 20 minute no rush" or whatever you want.

Hard AI is way too easy for me and I'm not some RTS sweaty master I'm avg rank in AoE 4. So we do need harder AIs.
But anyone saying "get gud" or "this kind of rts is supposed to be fast rush" is only correct for ranked multiplayer. We need easier AI too for people who want to chill out and make a cool base, which is a lot of the playerbase.

Did you play the first demo? They better have upped the quality...I don't care that CnC did it 30 years ago, having a bunch of explosive barrels conveniently placed everywhere is just lazy for a modern game.
This post makes no sense. The demo is mp only lol. so ofc its going to feel like that? you could say the same for cncn, or starcraft if you could only play mp.

SP and campaign is a huge part of the game, we have had demos in the past to show off afew levels. this however is a mp demo. Im not sure what you expect lol.

My main reason for getting this game is the campaign / story first, mp 2nd.

My only gripe so far is the Camera is too zoomed in. Please... game dev studios... let me look around the map like a Field Commander, not some low flying drone with astigmatism. :c

On the singleplayer topic, have the devs talked about what changes, if any, will be made to the campaign missions?

I remember them vaguely saying they were going to do that in one of their updates, but I haven't seen anything on what they meant by that.

At least play the finished campaign before passing judgement.

You are right on something, this game is a spam fest and you have to play this way only... One of the things I love about older sc is that you can go with small aerial rush, drop rush, zerling rush, still haven't seen many games but the ones from pros are just spam until there is no tomorrow. I don't really see any deep strategy other than the one having the higher APM will win, hope this changes later as game start growing.

Yep I am definitely going to buy the game, for the Singleplayer Campaign. But Playing Skirmish is all part of the value. Obviously Skirmish is focused on helping to support online Multiplayer, hence I guess the aggressive spam fest (even at Normal). But Skirmish also needs to cater for the casual Single players (vs Bots), just want to challenge/ relax with a realistic probability of winning. Hopefully they will tweak the Easy => Normal=> hard=> Brutal difficulty levels for Skirmish, and somehow avoid Spam fests being the winning strategy. Still Awesome !
100% agree, it is a shame that "classical RTS" is oversimplified as "spam, blob, keep clicking the 'special attack' and rush in this new genre of RTS games...

No tactical depth

No "real" combat chain

no real decision making during your match...

Even without cheesing, the hard AI is easy to beat. Here’s a video of mine showing you how it’s done.

I recommend setting the starting credits to 10,000—it makes things easier for beginners. Also, the longer you hold back, the stronger the AI gets. Eventually, it will expand its economy so much that it will overwhelm you with units.
if they want their game to be populated and active for the long term they will have to focus on MP, i only play singleplayer in RTS but i understand why games like AoE focus on the MP aspect.

If you can't handle normal, you sit well under typical players, After my 3th game I had no issues with normal and I consider myself the average or below that (I play my vast enough of games on easy). Sorry to say buy you are just bad.
Also new players that never played this game should probably start campaign or the easy AI.
Jules Feb 3 @ 5:33am
You obviously cannot read or comprehend my statements. If they want to attract large/ new player base, then the players will not be multiplayer. They are not here yet, as they are playing casual and mobile etc. And if the experience of those new players is frustrating on 'Normal' they will refund their purchase, and never come back. So enough of the superior 'Get Good' Aptitude, it does not help the community grow. It just puts (new) people off
