Too many flaws in the gameplay
Movement of units is tedious, units are not really interesting etc... Command and Conquer is still light years away. As I always say: Today's developer lack talent and skills.

The UX design is not what it used to be for sure.
AoE, C&C, SC2, WC3, DoW2 sucked you in and you could not put them down, stuck in for hrs, especially WC3.

1 - You need to immerse your player/user into your world with skillfully crafted tutorial and in-game story telling.
2 - Your game design, UI design, sound design must be done well ENOUGH as to not break the immersion.
3 - Environment is more important than the units.

It is hard to do, but if UX is nailed, then you will achieve player retention.
Either talented designers who know what they are doing, or experienced developers who understand how human psychology works. Or just get lucky i guess.

I'm a casual player who doesn't like to micromanage. I perceive all the nuances in the game as confusing. I researched doctines just because I had spare money. In the end, amassing Trebuchet tanks is the only thing that satisfies me.

If you haven't already, check out Mechabellum. It hits the C&C spot for me.

Zoom level is really low and you sse only a fraction of what happends, you constantly need to scroll to give orders,
I miss the total annihilation zoom style where you can zoom out as far as you wish to see clearly the action and micro manage better. I also enable to zoom out and in anywhere in the map in a second. (and dual screen was good).

Also, ASDW to move the screen would be simpler than arrow keys.

Game is pretty but gameplay lack at first glance all the quality of life that permit to focus on strat and lisibility.
Will give it some more hours tomorrow.

It is, It is not even an RTS, but it hits the UX so good, that it is better than other "RTS" games.

9 Bit Armies gets the CnC gameplay better.

I still can't decide if there's method to the dev's madness in how the units counter eachother and whatnot or if there really are just bad gameplay decisions and balance.

For me zoom was quite frustrating, the whole time I kept scrolling out wanted to zoom out a bit.
I like the game but there is one things that bothers me, some units are just boring and I will also add that game have some unnecesary micro, they tried to mirror protos overcharge mechanic...

Mechabellum has nothing to do with C&C. It's like saying you should play Chess because it satisfies your need for shooters.

- sadly this game was made by Slipgate Ironworks, which means that talent wasnt present in time of development.

Purposefully unreasonable example, unless you are throwing chess pieces at your opponent.
In Mechabellum if you go mass scorpion and give them acid upgrade, you can witness Kane's vengeance delivered.
