One of the endings was surprisingly disturbing
Yeah, it’s a horror game. I know, I know. I didn’t purchase a game with the tagline “Tricked into reading an ancient book, Loralyn summons a demon into her home” expecting a knee-slapping comedy.

And I also want to make it clear that I did really enjoy Night Book. I still feel that Contradiction is the gold standard when it comes to FMV games, but Night Book was very enjoyable overall. The story was interesting, the acting was believable, the audio and video was clear and crisp. I am not familiar with Julie Dray, but I thought that she in particular did a phenomenal job.

That all being said, the ending where Loralyn has to plead with the spirits not to kill her unborn child while her computer screen is bombarded with images of ultrasounds and babies was pretty rough. Again, it is a horror game. I get it. But that whole section kind of made me sick to my stomach. One Steam reviewer cited this scene specifically as the reason why they did not recommend the game, but while I feel that I would still recommend Night Book, I can certainly understand why this person would feel this way.

I think the bigger issue is how I didn’t feel like it really matched the rest of the game. Again, horror, I know, but showing horror through having possessed people flail their arms around wildly while making spooky sounds is a little different than having the main character suffer a miscarriage on camera, complete with frantic crying and bloody fingers.

Mostly I am just curious if anyone else felt disturbed by that scene.

This is the ending that triggers the Horrific achievement. Your father has to die and you have to fail to get Pearce to stop construction on the island. There might be other factors involved. This seems like the worst of the endings, so basically just do everything as poorly as possible, I suppose.

So of course this is the ending I get on my first playthrough. haha

This game is a little more hardcore than I was expecting, which is good. I can't wait to go through it again for a better ending.

I think that that is also my issue with it. I still think of FMV horror as cheesy stuff, like Night Trap or Dracula Unleashed, so when a a FMV horror game actually brings the horror, it catches me off guard. But I agree with you, I don't really consider that to be a bad thing.

I agree. To see it and not just have it hinted to was pretty disturbing, don't think it was listed in the triggers at the beginning.
