How to unlock new crafting recipes?

Okay, so maybe I'm stupid, but when I click the question mark in the smith for an unknown recipe, it says "Found in the 'Unlock' tab under Tasks", but I can't find this anywhere. I have scoured all of the menus and can't find anything labeled Tasks or Unlocks.

For reference, I have 4 characters, and have advanced to the stage with the goblins, but haven't beat the first boss yet. Is this something that's locked behind the boss or something?? I was hoping to get slightly better equipment before I go and fight it...

Edit: Figured it out after watching some Youtube videos. First of all, it's not called tasks, it's called "Achievements", so that's misleading. It's accessed by talking to Grasslands Gary at the top of the town. I've talked to him before but had nothing to claim so just left, and never connected the dots because, again, the menu is called "Achievements", not "Tasks".

Leaving this topic up so hopefully it can save someone else some time.

The achievement board guy, one of the tabs at the top will be the unlocks you are looking for

actually it is called tasks, achievements is a subgroup under tasks

Open your Codex - Quick Ref tab. It says Tasks there.
You can also click on the Achievements button in the top-left that you have mistaken for the menu title, and it will now say BACK TO TASKS. Same thing if you click the Merit Shop button in the top-right.
