Can something be pay to win if there is no win state? This game is just fancy cookie clicker. There is no story, no skill challenges and no competitive element. You just make the numbers get bigger forever and ever...that's it. Every system in every world all just ultimately feeds back into bonuses to help you kill more monsters per hour.

You can spend as much as you want making the numbers get bigger faster if you like, but....I would argue; whether you spend $0 or $1000 it's pretty much the same thing. Paying will let you complete a lot of achievements faster if that's important to you, but it will still require months if not years of waiting.

I've spent nothing on the game and have had fun playing it the last month. When I can i'll give them a bit for the auto pickup, but I've never felt pressure to buy anything. Did I miss out on something, probably. Do I care, no.

It is tempting to start spending money if you get invested in the game, but honestly it takes a while to reach that point. When you first look at the gem shop, you probably wont even know what most of the bonuses even do.
There's no pvp though, usually the thing that makes people spend megabucks on phone games. The pet system is the closest thing to gacha gambling, but even that is nowhere near as bad as the worst gacha games out there.

Lots of fanatics defend the dev's decisions, but the game is extremely cash heavy as it is right now.
Originally it was 100% f2p friendly with the only paid option you need being a $5 bundle that enabled auto-loot if you wished to leave the game playing overnight else you wouldn't get any loot due to loot despawning if not picked up for an hour or so (that and by time you reach endgame, all the loot on the ground can cause lots of lag).

Time went on and the dev got increasingly greedy.

*He put forced adverts in the game after you login that take a third of the screen and last an entire minute, begging you to buy the current $20 bundle. The bundles themselves were mostly capes with better stats than boss capes but weren't normally anything game breaking but the invasive ads were annoying as hell and Lava refused to remove them

*He created the "Lab skill which is universally despised. It gave nice bonuses at the expense of locking yourself out of characters thus you'd constantly be locked out of half your characters to maintain the bonuses (more about this on next point) and the characters stuck in the lab couldn't leave the lab to benefit from the bonuses such as () because leaving the lab would break the link and disable the bonuses

*On World 5 Lava created Divinities characters could link with for certain bonuses but each character could only link with 1 at a time and was only allowed to change once per week. One of the bonuses was a divinity named "Arctis" that allowed the character linked to it to connect to the lab wirelessly thus keeping the lab bonuses while freeing the character. The problem is it traded one trap for another. You went from being locked i the lab to being locked to that specific divinity and not being able to choose some of the other divinity bonuses such as "Snehebatu" which gives +30% all afk gains or "Omniphau" which would duplicate afk time for Refinery, 3D Printer, Cooking, Pet Breeding, Sailing, or Gaming, chosen at random. Divinities had some OP bonuses but once again played traded one prison for another

*Next Lava did what he claimed he would never do and previously claimed to detest: he turned the game into a gatcha. Lava added a gatcha system to the game in the form of Companions with certain companions having OP bonuses (Ram allowed usage of storage from anywhere thus allowing users to not loose excess resources if afk too long & Sheepie permanently activated all bubbles for all characters) but none was more OP than Doot which activated all divinities for all characters which meant true freedom.
The problem? The chance to get Doot was 0.28% at worst if using the lowest quality roll (100 pet crystals) and 0.85% at best if using the highest quality roll (250 pet crystals) which is worse rates than actual gatcha (and unlike in real gatcha, duplicates serve no purpose other than to be deleted). To add insult to injury, f2p have no means of getting pet crystals unlike with normal crystals which were given out to f2p in abundance and was only given 1 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ per week. Because of this, f2p players were largely locked out of companions and there was MASSIVE backlash. You want to know how Lava responded? Instead of listening to player's concerns and fixing his mistakes, he instead perma banned every last player who criticized the change from all social media he has control over. Permanent bans from the Reddit, the Discord, the Twitch stream chats, and more for half the community because he is a stubborn and spiteful dev who doesn't care at all about his player base, only their wallets.

*Took over a year but lava finally admitted he messed up but refuses to unban anyone which means he's not really sorry and also launched a second wave of companions while still not allowing f2p players any means of obtaining pet crystals.

It's not f2p friendly despite what the fanatics claim

There is a ton of questionable packs that border on "must haves" but you can spend a ton and gain crazy progress but I have seen some accounts that clearly don't spend at all but know how to hyper focus on important systems like Alchemy for example and do really well. The main push in this game isn't really "money" its patience and time investment. You are hitting a crazy ultra marathon not a simple 5k race.

For example - Limbus Company or Reverse:1999 both are just nothing in comparison with money sucking potential of idleon.
Imagine buying 3x$20 packs just to not miss time limited pets that u most likely will never ever see again. For some reason I didn't drop this game yet but a bit more greed and it will be better to switch to some modern gacha, at least it will have some boobies included.

you clearly have not played any other games with gacha in it, i remember one of my friends spending 100$+ to get just one pet in grand chase and the gacha pets in that game were legitimately broken, i mean they were flat out banned in pvp by everyone except complete noobs because they would just 1 shot people with no counter play

but i do agree with you that lava needs to step up his game in the fan service department and get us some nice high quality tig bitties, hopefully world 7 will have a skill for that
