I actually was always turned off from clicker heroes because it felt SO "Reach the next decimal place to progress" where as this has so much more to it than just decimal places.
I played realm grinder for years and this scratches a similar itch for me. The idle is all there still but it also has a nice theme that I enjoy on top. Updates can slow down sometimes but it does feel good how there's been new content added over the years where as others just feel like they add a new ceiling to reach with little more to get you there. This game's updates feel new and interesting rather than "literally the same thing again"
Some people will complain about MTX but I find them easy to ignore but the packs are getting more heavy handed. I've bought 2 to support the game since I've enjoyed it for so long. Some bonuses are nice but you dont actually "need" them. Its felt nice before packs and it still feels the same nice after.
Something to add, new player starts are MUCH smoother with the additional things in w1/2 that weren't there years ago.
You either get a smoother experience or more time to cook.
There's also no ads. None.
only dumb thing is groups are useless (0 funktion to help lower or other things) only for dungeons needed..
I've played many idle games before, but Idleon is the only one I've stuck with for more than a month or two. Unlike all other idle "games" I've played, Idleon is an actual game with meaningful short and long term decision making and planning.
The game starts pretty simple and straightforward but as you reach new worlds, you unlock more and more new skills and features which quickly make planning more complicated and it can feel a bit overwhelming at first, it certainly did for me.
The amount of active play needed for optimal progression seems to vary. At first you have such low afk gains rates and so few characters that not having the game running feels like a big waste of progression.
Eventually the number of characters you get (max is 10 atm), the increased afk efficiency (it can even get above 100%), the 3D printer (a world 3 feature) and the Laboratory (a skill in world 4) make active play kind of redundant outside of a few cases, notably active grinding on classes that have respawn skills (Divine Knight, Siege Breaker, Elemental Sorcerer).
To be clear, by "active play" I mean simply having the game actually running and the character set to auto move, not manually moving the character around or activating skills. That's almost never necessary outside of early game boss fights. (Remember to activate "Use attacks during auto" in options for each character to make them actually use skills during auto mode)
About microtransactions: the only one that is iffy to me is the companions, a gacha system that gives you huge performance and quality of life boosts for each "companion" you get. You can pull for one for free each week and more pulls can only be gotten from packs or bought directly at a huge €$£ cost.
The 5 buck autoloot pack is the only one I think is kind of necessary at some point, it's also permanently available so there's no fomo there.
Packs rotate and give some huge boosts but the game has no meaningful online competitive play so I don't feel any pressure to buy them.
Diamonds can be obtained at an "okay" rate by playing the game and should primarily be used to buy various upgrades.
- things that don't work 90% of the time
- math that is wrong 90% of the time
- extreme P2W
- being inundated with ads on startup
- not being treated with any level of respect by the dev
- the most toxic community you will ever see
- getting permabanned by the dev from reddit or discord if you have any criticism about the game
just find a different game made by someone who actually knows how to code and do math.
-free to play
-able to grind MTX currency ingame
-despite being advertised as an MMO, you can do everything alone, even party dungeons. could also be a con if you wanted MMO elements
-game rewards you in both active and afk playstyles
-runs on browser, phone, and steam
-no memory leaks
-multiple characters and classes help your account so you can playtest and see what you like the most
-most of the classes are good both active and afk, just don't pick beastmaster as your "pusher"
CONS
-some things are locked behind packages that require payment (autoloot, 2x damage wings)
-p2w pet system, explained below
-several minor bugs
-community ranges from cult behavior to typical discord personality
been playing for two or three months, it's pretty good. just know that you may have to spend money in this F2P game in order to have some decent quality-of-life changes. what QOL changes, you ask?
-autoloot, $5
-2x damage wings from one of the packs, $20 or so
-green gems for king doot (massive world 5 buff), $40-$440 pulls
you can say you don't NEED to buy these things, but to imply there's zero P2W is a massive joke. you are winning when you buy gems, there is no argument against that. you can't make the "no leadership board" argument either now with tomes.
but other than that, if you play casually and ignore most of the discord community, it's fine. it's the only AFK game i actually enjoy
