Heres a revolutionary idea:
use autoattack ALWAYS, no seriously A L W A Y S
and use swipe with mouse not some clicks to collect drops -that way your not going to switch maps and loose some unrecoverable stuff (quest drops, npc tokens etc)

The portal thing is an actual problem, worse in some maps (where the Thermisters are for example). Every time you get a reroll on your afk gains makes the click *work* as if you're playing rather than keep your character stationary and just let the loot rain. Turning off portals is probably just something Lava hasn't figured out how to implement without breaking something else. Annoying for random boss events too., at least now you can actually attack it when it stands in the portal, and autoattack issues are no longer a problem since recently.

That said, ShadowSkill is still right about how you should do it :P though that "revolutionary" bit was uncalled for. But you just seem to have started playing, you're gonna figure it out eventually! And sometimes it's just patience. If you really feel like you need to click, wait for it to move. They always walk around aimlessly (unless you use the berserker skill that makes all monsters come to you of course :P

Yeah, click hold and dragging with mouse should be the only way you manually loot. when i figured out that was a thing it was game changing in this regard. Even if you want individual stacks of certain drops, you can float the held cursor above or below the loot and select what you want first.

Does that work better from above/below? Or is it maybe just a thing of preference? Personally I feel it easier to do from the side because even if they look like they are on the same spot, often items are just ever so slightly shifted to the side (I mean of course you're right, if it's one/some in between others go in from above/below to pick, but I mean beyond that)

YEah, above or below as in selecting the desired loot as to not fill inv with what you do not want and having to open it to drop things, not everyone will have the giga bags. Had to do that a lot till the account snowballing

Ah okay, guess I was thinking of that to be too obvious :P and yeah, bags...always takes me forever to get the highest ones even for one char...thought this time I'm good to go, made one of the finals and forgot to check the level requirement, luckily I only have one bag rot in the big bag :P
