I actually have the first one, though not too deep like other rogue shooters I've played recently. Still getting a hang on the controls mostly due to impatience.
Looking forward to sequel though, as it might scratched other itches I've missed having since the 90s.
It was a 2-D, I think SVGA game. That allowed a lot of cool detail for its era (almost like a painting), and its purposefully cheesy FMV cutscenes were fun in its day. :)
Although i got Crusader on GoG, I have to admit in some ways it hasn't aged well. The kb controls are clumsy by today's standards (I don't think it made use of mouse for aiming at all). and my eyes can't really take VGA/SVGA games now. :)

Until the day some wonderful person would remaster the Crusader series with better controls, Synthetik 2 would be closest we have to a better Crusader experience.
