I'm trying to get the first artifact? some people have mentioned buying it from the store? or use the air compresser in the neighbor's yard? I've been here for a long time and nothing :( Can't continue the game?

it can take over an hour for some artifacts to spawn, even longer if you messed with your system clock to get more leaves

First you need to buy artifacts in the BLC shop. Then go to the neighbours garden and the first artifact should spawn (that being a compass). Then go to space and get the second artifact (being a time crystal). From there everything should be straight forward. The wiki has a list of all the artifacts if you're still curious. Just be aware that changing the time on your PC messes up the artifact spawn timer.

It's very quick for the first artifacts to spawn once you purchase them and go to the correct locations (as described by yoelkompithra above). There really shouldn't be any significant waiting involved, like less than a minute.

Those two in particular tell you where artifacts spawn and when, you get each one once. That said, depending on where along you are, artifacts aren't a big progression gate when you first open them up. Other systems are a bigger focus early on, like trading for cheese, crafting high value leaves, and upgrading them.
