Game slowdown
I am currently working to level up my tools, so sitting in the dark glade gathering materials to do so. I've felt this process was going a bit slowly, but I actually confirmed it last night.

I left my computer running the game in the background when I went to sleep. Just before going to sleep I bought a round of upgrades leaving me with less than 1k of each material. When I look this morning I have between 5 and 6k of each. Well, the game says I should be getting ~1706 per hour (some a bit more) so over 8 hours I should have roughly 13.6k.

To clarify, I don't think the game is mis-reporting the spawn rate, I think the whole game slows down the longer it is running. I've noticed the longer it's running in the background, when I tab in, my mouse is very sluggish and so are the movements of materials or leaves. Save and quit, then start it up again works, but that means I need to be more attentive than I want to be to an idle game.

I have found this too, exactly as you describe. I cannot get the Steam FPS counter to show up to confirm a drop in frame-rate however.

It seemed to start after the last update. I think I read something about the developer moving the game onto a different game engine - perhaps the new engine is the cause.

Exactly. Since I created this post ~2 hours ago, I had reset the game. I just tabbed in, it was running 20-25 fps. Reset it again, runs at a locked 60fps. So it only takes 2 hours for it to drop below half speed. Definitely not working properly.

I've had it running for over 24 hours at this point, and haven't noticed any slowing down. It's still using the less-than 300 MB of memory it always does (or at least what I always see it at).

Have you got the Steam Overlay enabled for the game? There's a few games that just really don't like having the Steam Overlay active on them, and it typically causes things to slow down (though I don't know if it makes the game use more resources or just makes it run poorly some other way).
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

From my observations you only collect at half the rate when the game is running in the background.

Hopefully they can fix that then, that sucks.

The developer is working on it but until then reset the game every now and then.

I get the impression that there is memory fragmentation so allocations take longer. Memory pools would solve that.
