No subtitles in ingame cutscenes although gothic.ini is correct
Hi there,
I adore this game and just love to play it. But the following thing bothers me and I couldn't find any fix here or somewhere else online:
I play with german subtitles and polish voiceover (loving it), BUT I don't have subtitles in ingame cutscenes.
Two examples:
1) While working for the city guard you should test cheap crossbows of the merchants guild, but you and your companion get attacked by a few bandits in a tunnel next to the woods near the city.
2) In the main quest, where you follow Gonzalo to find the smugglers nest to find your brother. You hide behind a big rock, then 3 bandtits appear and talk to Gonzalo before over 2-3 minutes (!) they murder him.
In both of these situations I don't have any subtitles and I would like to understand what's going on.

I already checked the gothic.ini, but all of the entries for subtitles are activated (=1) for example "subTitlesNoise=1".

Does anybody have a solution for this problem? I would be super happy, thanks in advance!

Hi, thats some strange behaviour that you are descriping...

What is shown in the ingame settings for the subtitles? Enabled or disabled?

I always get subtitles, if they show enabled in the ingame settings...

Hey there. Thanks for your quick response. Yeah the subtitles are enabled.

I experienced some other situations, where I don't get subtitles:
a) When the mages hold a trial against Huug (not sure about the name - the artefact "merchant).
b) When the player character examine things suchs as the corpse of the dead guy in oscars ship pub or at valerios wineyard in the kitchen.
etc.

Any idea, what I could do?

Good morning, that should be ambient subtitles.

They did work for me in the cases you mentioned, but not for example for the town crier...

Unfortunately im not near my computer right now, so i cant take a look at the settings/inis, what has to be changed to enable them

Changing subTitlesPlayer, subTitlesNoise and subTitlesAmbient should be enough. Actually everything should work fine by default on Steam version, unless you install some third-party mods or use Spine (which is not supported by us!). Also make sure you change the proper Gothic.ini, in Archolos game directory, not in Gothic 2.

Thank you (both of you!)! The last comment made me realize, that I always checked the Gothic II gothic.ini and not the one from the Archolos folder. It is fixed now! (:
Just for the record: I didn't install any other mods, so the default Steam version didn't work fine, at least not the german version.
