The Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos, 4 BUGs
Hello :-)
I am using a MacBook Pro M1 MAX (in maximum configuration).
Parallels Desktop for Mac is also present and has Windows 11 ARM integrated.
It runs Steam and Archolos version 2.6 (fix-SP 1.8).

Everything is updated and up to date.

1.
The maximum resolution is 1920x1200x32.
I could also select a higher resolution, maximum 4112x2658x32, but that always results in an error message with game crash:
Error-Message
X: XD3D_InitPerDX: Can't create D3DX context ! Error: D3DXERR_INVALIDMODE

2.
When I start a new game, the video at the beginning is only very small in the middle of the screen.

3.
I do not hear the characters including the hero speaking.
In the video at the beginning of the game, the person telling the story can be heard speaking.
Music plays perfectly.
Effects can also be heard.
Subtitles are also available.

4.
The game does not run smoothly. At the moment it is unplayable.
It doesn't matter if the hero moves left or right or back and forth or if he jumps or fights or if he doesn't move at all and if you look at an NPC then he has the same problems.
For example, when I press the W key or any other key, it usually takes 1 second for something to happen and even the process that happens then is not fluid from start to finish.
It doesn't matter if I set all settings to minimum or maximum, maximum looks much better of course, but the problem remains.
Does anyone have a clue what else I could do?
Should I try a mod?
Or change something in the ini?

The MacBook is still at room temperature and doesn't even get warm.
It's not even close to running at capacity either.
Just as an example: World of Tanks is completely playable with maximum settings and even there the device gets minimally warm and the fans don't even have to start.

I think it is also a problem of the game software.

I've tried compatibility (Windows 95 to Windows 8) as well.
The idea:
Right click on Gothic --> Properties --> Compatibility --> Change emulation settings --> Change "Default" to "Safe Emulation".
I tried that too, as well as switching to "Strict Execution" and "Very Strict Execution", but it didn't help.

Use advanced settings, tried all there, didn't help either.

Hide X64 emulation feature (x86 apps only) didn't help either.

It would be nice if someone apart from me could also ask the developers or the people who create mods/patches.

Microsoft not for nothing made the effort to develop as quickly as possible a Windows 11 ARM, since Intel and AMD also develop appropriate ARM CPUs and make them available later.

In 3 years ARM CPUs have at least 30% market share.

The world is evolving and we need to find ways to play Gothic, Archolos... now and in the future.

To my knowledge, then 1, 2 and 3 are intended.
Read the pinned FAQ. There are reports about maximum resolution and it might be possible to change, but you have to do it in the .ini file. Keep in mind this is a 20+ year old engine they are using, so 4k is NOT considered normal.

The intro video size I believe is related to the engine as well, being an old resolution. No idea if it's possible to change, but I didn't consider it a bug myself.

The voiceover in the intro is part of the movie. You have to enable the voiceover in your DLC section on Steam for voices to appear in the actual gameplay. Keep in mind it's only in Polish, but it's still a great voiceover.

Your last bug I'm not sure about, but it sounds like the old "clockspeed" issue older games had. It was even a thing in Gothic 3, where days could pass by in an instant when looking around with your character. This usually required a seperate system install, but these days it appears to have been fixed. I don't know if it's the same on a Mac though.

Thanks for the information.
I need to look more into the matter.
Hopefully others with Apple devices can help.

Have something changed over this months?
On Parallels Archolos can't get pas 8-10 fps, Gothic 2 NotR runs perfectly.

Have something improved?

1. GPU Issue - Dx11 or LegacyAltRenderer are a must have,
2. Not a bug, video must be low-res to work for most people.
3. Download and activate Polish Voices DLC for different languages than Polish.
4. I have absolutely no experience with MacOS, I can't really help.
