Being an 'open world' or, God forbid, a 'sandbox' game is not a part of any serious definition of the term 'role-playing game'.
Gothic games are dated in many ways, but this approach to the pace of exploration and construction of the world presented to the player is not a flaw resulting from a limited computing power or poor engine, but a deliberate design decision.
I 100% agree. Terrible way to ruin open world feeling. Don’t worry about ppl trying to defend it. You don’t need to feel the same way as someone cause they locked in their box.
