wasd for camera

Why is not wasd default set for camera. How can you use the arrow keys. I tried remapping them. and ya it works but it also does another hot key at same time. For example I hit W to move camera left and it also sets unit to attack. So left clicking will move the unit too with right clicking. There is no where to disable that attack hot key.

I would also like to know how I could switch over to WASD.
I could not find anything in the settings either.

People usually scroll with the mouse in an RTS.

People usually scroll with the mouse in an RTS.

Usually not no. WASD is pretty basic and I have been doing this since vanilla AoE

That's one of the rare cases where I hear people saying that scrolling in an RTS with WASD is basic.

No, I'm not. 11 I'm playing the Age series since my childhood and always either used arrow keys or just scrolled by moving the mouse to the edge.

By reading different forums.

I'm not forcing "my way of playing" onto you. I just said that while there are people who use WASD for scrolling, that's super rare.

Where do you get these information from that it would be rare ? Did you make some kind of study on what buttons people use to play a bloody game ?

This entire discussion is a joke. Most RTS games allow people to move with WASD, just to name a few, Company of Heroes 3, WARNO, Wargame, Blitzkrieg, AoM, WiC...and so on and on..

Its truly not a big deal to have this as an option in settings and the dude asked for it, so did I.

I am fine with using arrows and mouse, but I prefer WASD due to the position of my keyboard, as simple as that.

Since you are moving the map very often, having it move with the left hand, and click and point with the mouse with the right hand is most efficient. The arrow keys are too far to right, this is very uncomfortable and you have to move you left hand way too far, even if you using the wasd keys for other thing, its a big jump to go back there.

I found the fix though, have to go to the Grid Keys section of key mapping, and clear the wasd that are currently used for basic functions. Then make wasd the camera controls

It's true that WASD camera movement is not common in RTS games which is weird and archaic. Edge scrolling is so clumsy by today's standards.

You are the Troll here. Age of Empires has always had the left side of the keyboard mapped as hotkeys for various actions, not movement. Yet I support your quest for easy remapping of keys.

But maybe, just maybe you want to look into using hotkeys for actions and the mouse for movement, as this can easily increase your APM threefold.
