Very underdeveloped third person mode.
Just putting this out there but I exclusively play these types of games in third person mode as I have a very difficult time spacing things and like to weave in and out of enemy range and I very much prefer to see the hero I've made visually progress over the course of the game. The animations are very underdeveloped, and the fact that your weapon vanishes when you sheath it looks really silly, even Skyrim from 2011 lets me see my cool character walking around with my weapon and armor.

Might pick it up again after a few patches if they address the underdeveloped third person mode.

IDK if anyone needs to hear this but before you say "muh immersion" some of us don't get immersed into these games the way you do. I don't self-insert into these games, it's more like watching an action movie like John Wick. I want to see a cool character doing cool stuff, a hero that I've made. I don't actually self-insert as the hero, so first person just feels like I can't see the entire experience unfolding and it's not enjoyable. Also being able to see a character slowly change into cooler and cooler gear as they get stronger is a big part of the feeling of progression, none of which you can experience in first person beyond just seeing the weapon and that's when it's drawn.

To the developers: You also shouldn't have a character look up/down in third person, because 90% of the time a player is going to be looking down at the ground at a slight angle to see the ground in front of them, and thus the animation for looking down is going to constantly be in play, which makes the character look very strange when walking around.

This was added near the end just as an option for those who like it. It wasn't intended to have this mode. So you should just kind of, be thankful it was added. Play in first person mode as intended, at least until (and if) they improve that mode.

I'm constantly boggled by people who complain about 3rd person in a first person game. It's like me buying a JRPG then complaining that it wasn't a racing game or something.

If it's in the game it's fair to criticize it. If they aren't going to do it right then just don't do it at all.

If you'd rather it didn't exist simply don't use it. Unbind the key and pretend it isn't there.

Well, when you make your game you can implement or not features how you wish. If you follow the developers you'd know this feature was added just as a last minute bonus. They know it's not perfect, it wasn't intended to be played that way. It's just like Skyrim which also (even now) has a terrible 3rd person system (without mods).

I get it, complaining is fine. But you also should do some research, then set proper expectations. If you are into 3rd person games and HATE first person games, you shouldn't even have bought this.

100% - my guess is they bought the game with sole intention of playing this made for first person game, in 3rd person.

The 3rd person mod is absolutey terrible. But it doesn't take away from the experience for me (Cyberpunk doesn't have 3rd person, and that works just fine). Frankly what bothers me more is the fact that in 1st person you are a damn floating camera! I want to see my feet! As Denarys Targarian might say: Where are my feet???

I assume it'll be improved in future patches, this feature was added not long before the official release, so they didn't have the most time to polish it.

I'm not interested in yet another first person RPG, so I just won't play it. Which is why I refunded it. There's other people out there who weren't interested until they heard it had a third person mode, this thread is for those people like me who were going to pass on it until we saw a third person mode.

If first person is fine for you that's great, have fun and enjoy yourself. This thread isn't for you.

some basic research would have told you that it was implemented just recently and that its not in a good place they clearly state that in their previous patch notes which would take like 5 minutes of reading. Also not an airport you don't need to announce your departure. And no one needs the discussion post they just need a brain between those ears big enough to know that they should research. If you didn't learn from the day before nothing will teach you.

since it was a last minute addition that even beta tester for the 1.0 didn't got the right to see i guess they will work on it when they have time.

Even at bethesda they can't do 3rd person right anyway.

I played the demo and was nice, the game is good but i dont like fp games (i also like to wave in and out, and watch my character look better as it grows) and was ready to move on but then i saw a dev blog saying 3rd person was coming in 1.0, so i waited for 1.0 to buy the game....i also saw a dev blog saying 3rd person was going to suck because it was a last minute bonus added. My guess is if they promoted the game with 3rd person view they are going to fix it eventualy, otherwise why bother selling the game with a broken feature that is a big deal breaker for some ppl (like me and op). So patience, play fp, or enjoy the weird..i mean im having my good lols watching my char sneak around moving so weird haha...

It literally says when you enter 3rd person for the first time, that it's an accessibility feature, not an intended gameplay method. It's literally only for people who get motion sick in first person.

You are not meant to play in third person.

It's an option to help disabled people, just like colorblind mode is. Wanna complain colorblind mode makes the color palettes odd while you're at it?

From the steam store page and in the info about the 1.0 release:

TPP (third-person perspective)
As we communicated in the last update, we managed to squeeze in the TPP perspective to the game, but we want to reiterate that this game was created with FPP in mind. TPP mode is playable but FAR from perfect

The newest trailer shows almost as much third person moments than first person

yeah i mean it should work fine either way let it be for accessibility or just a feature, is like you need colorblind help so you use the accessibility option but only works half way some colors works some dont (using you own example) if is there it should work. I also understand is a new feature added in the end and that they are going to eventualy fix it.
Chaosolous May 23 @ 10:38pm
It works for me. When I press Z, I'm in third person.

When I turn on colorblind mode, it works, the colors are slightly different.

Is it the ideal best way to play the game? No. It's not meant to be either. It's meant, to give an opportunity to play the game like a normal person would be able to, to someone who is disabled.

You should only be using 3rd person mode if you are literally disabled and get vomit like symptoms when playing in 1st person mode.

It is not meant to be anything beyond that. It works for that purpose, ergo, it works. Exactly as intended.

You are not intended to use it, if you are not disabled.
