The infected don't attack your workers?
I mean, it would be annoying if they did, but it still feels weird that the Infected don't care if they're walking around within reach of your workers.

They did it before and there was a community outrage about this, so they don't do it now. But we'll experiment with it a little bit more, we'll see how to hone it.

why would people be upset the zombies attack workers? seems like a thing zombies would do :er_sweat:

You have to think here from a gameplay perspective. If they would attack the workers it would piss the player of, since there is next to no way of control over each worker. The defs would have to implement ways for controling / managing their moves, but this on the other hand would create a lot of micro management that would become more tedious than fun. For the moment it's enough to have the management of 3-4 squads for exploration, looting and defence. Having to control each of the 40+ worker directly would quickly become a chore.
I would add a "panic route behaviour", over a rather big radius. If zombies are spotted, in that radius a worker would run back to base, with a slighter faster running speed than a zombie. Maybe with a bit of circling around the enemy. That way they would get very rarely into melee range and you wouldn't notice that they are not fighting.
While it is true you have no control over a worker, you can easily see its pathing, it goes with the shortest distance possible. Effectively, you can easily see where they are, when they are taking too long to return to safety, etc. That means you can easily send a squad there to keep the workers safe as they return at the end of the day, all it needs is a feature where the infected prioritize squads attacking them than workers running.
If you have your workers move through a very long path, then you would have to prepare ahead, slowly build a warehouse nearby, a few towers, etc. It would make a more interesting and challenging game in my opinion.

That's a solid idea - it's almost odd that there's only the one walking speed, in a way.

Glad, I read this before buying, sounds like quite an unlogical and 'unimmersive' mechanic..

Too bad, was looking forward to this game :-/

I see a LOT of cases where workers and infected get intermixed with no attacks happening. Daytime Infected. Infected who manage to catch up workers as they're walking home. When my workers rush out to man their towers and the Infected let them pass.

Perhaps have them prioritize targets? Like only go after workers if they can't find squads, towers, or gates.
