Management of guards and civilians at night
Hi there. Loving the game so far.

A thing that bugs me a bit is the "micro management" of the guards. For better defending, currently you have to unassign workers from their jobs to become guards at night, than reassign day to their old jobs. When you do this every day, around 50+ days it starts to add to managment of the colony.

I don´t know if it would make the game too easy, but it would be nice if at night, every civilian grabbed a gun and became a guard, without the need of a tower.

The tower could give other bennefits as better aim, more damage, or civilians are only allowed to reload during the day, only guards can use bows, etc.

So far we dont need the guards during the day, becoming a guard might be a night job only, I mean, when you click someone to become a guard, that person does not stop to being a farmer, or builder, or another assigned job.

This would make the game days flow faster when against lots of zombie hordes, and give more utility to the lots of pistols we have sitting at the storage at late game.

It could also be a late game research as the hordes increases, or a new building, where you train civilians to use pistols first, than other weapons, so they could use the weapons at the warehouses.

Another balance issue is that more people fring guns, makes more ammo being spent.

You can't put everyone in towers because they need to sleep.
That is probably why they are an actual job.
Tired workers would just fall asleep anyway.

I like that sort of late game notion of civilians arming themselves if there are weapons available. Makes it seem like any building with anyone assigned to it could become a fortress over time. Maybe even scale that sort of thing with difficulty setting and game years played or something.

Exactly. With guards there at all times you can go foraging and leave your base empty knowing it's protected from enemy units and mobs during a storm. Leave this as it is imo. It works well.

Am I missing something? Is there a way to have your 'normal' distribution of workers but then at night switch everyone to guard duty? Because right now I need to flip back and forth literally every 12hrs in the game

QOL request:

It would be nice if one could freeze some towers/gates so they are not influenced by the slider.

Normally there are some exposed positions you always want full, some you always want empty except when a swarm is incoming and then a few you are filling every night and empty every day.

This is a lot of micro at the moment.

It would also be nice to have this for scavenging.
