Do zombies still path through water?

I live by the water and was eager to utilize my local water source as a natural defense but at launch, I read that zombies will go right across even the ocean without trouble. Is that still so?

They’re slower in water probably. I know for sure citizens and squads will go through it and swim (reducing speed). I tried to setup shop at the Santa Monica Pier but they also swim on ground there so no luck for me

Yes they go through water. They move slower. They will prefer taking a land route if one is available. I have a zone in Beijing and every once in a great while they do attack through the water. But during large attacks that come from land they tend to spread out sometimes and will go out into water to attack from there. You do need to have defenses all the way around.
