Wood Shortage
I seem to be running into a recurring issue as soon as I start running cookhouses (and industries) - a critical shortage of WOOD.

I can *mostly* keep on top of it by demolishing any non-critical, abandoned building in the vicinity, but this leads to my warehouses being filled to capacity with hundreds of unused brick, and to a lesser extent metal, while I desperately try to gather enough wood to keep everything running. :(
Chopping down trees has my workers ranging so far and wide that they barely get anything done in a workday before they have to return at sunset, not to mention the dangers of roaming bandits. ;__;

A structure to fabricate wood out of thin air in exchange for labour, or some way to extend / multiply the gathered wood, is my biggest desire as things stand. xD

Anybody got any tips for keeping on top of wood supplies?

agreed wood quickly becomes a issue, we could do with a coppicing/horticulture research where workers cut trees in a manner they grow back/latter replant new trees

It does get a bit wild at present, but I feel like that's mostly down to not having any sustainable, dependable way to procure wood. 1 wood per 4-5 rations isn't *wild*, I feel like.

120 pops require 30 rations - if you're cooking meat meals, that's "just" 6 wood per day. That's not *bad*, as such, except that the only 'reliable' way to get more wood outside of the first week or so is by demolishing vacant buildings, which bloats your warehouses with metal and brick because of their 1:1:1 yield. </3

If you're manufacturing fuel (for cars and ammunition), tools, etc. it gets even worse.

And on TOP of that constant drain on your wood stocks, wood is ubiqitous in *all* construction / adaptations, with the sole exception of brick walls, metal fences and barbed wire. You almost literally need wood for *everything*.
So I'm super stoked to hear that the devs are taking note! 10/10 :grwheart:

Also I don’t understand why we need so much of wood to adapt a building into a shelter, they just need places to sleep.

I see a house which provides me 10 woods(also bricks and metals, too), and it requires 12 woods to adapt it into a shelter. Maybe they need some wood to make extra beds but I think it needs to be more balanced.

Fortunately(?) we can manage to keep it running because buildings “grow back” lol

I think it will be more pratical if the yield for wood is 4 or 5/1/1

Yeah, that's kind of where I'm leaning towards too. A higher yield of wood from demolishing buildings would honestly be a pretty good bandaid measure, without being over-reliant on a currently non-existent sustainable wood-production feature.

there has to be quite some stuff programmed for that, a quicker fix would be for now to increase the wood yield from all sources, while they work on the forester

Trees seem to grow back too when u load a game so it ok for me. I have 150+ wood sitting in my store.
