The accounts for maybe 5 minutes across the whole chapter, and you get a magnify materia out of it, which is well worth the effort.
At the same time if the game was nothing but a boss rush of fight after fight, even though that would technically be "more good gameplay", it wouldn't feel like the complete package it is now. Maybe you'd miss the boring parts if they didn't exist? Idk I'm just rambling.
I don't disagree, the game would be a slog to get through if it was just combat after combat after combat non-stop. The walking parts are important for pacing.
But the tunnel at the beginning of chapter 9 is too much for me, the game would be better if that section was nixed.
I'm pretty positive about Chapter 8 myself. Sidequests were generally decent, was nice to breath a little and wander about. But maybe it's mainly because I love hearing the "Hollow Skies" music track so much
