If you’re ok with the other presentation issues brought with the use of the ultrawide mod, this is lesser concern than those in my opinion.
Good to know. However, I decided to keep the game at 16:9 for my first playthrough. I just wanted to avoid any presentation issues that might crop up. Besides, I've heard that Rebirth might launch with ultrawide support. Thematically speaking, the first game makes sense being in 16:9 because the characters also feel boxed in Midgar lol. The 2nd game meanwhile, will open up with ultrawide and represents them escaping the city to the wider world. That's how I'm justifying it lol.
Hah I love the philosophy here. Also hoping Rebirth comes with ultrawide support. Where did you read this out of interest?
While the cutscenes do fill the screen on 21:9, they are dramatically zoomed in, cropping out a lot of the vertical scene. Also, I'm the type to frequently look at my map. All of these issues are dealbreakers for me, which is why I'm sticking with 16:9. It still looks really good.
