Slower On Steam VS Epic Games??
So i have a bit of a dilemma. I pre purchased the Rebirth Deluxe Edition on Steam and got FF7 Remake included. When i loaded it up with 4K resolution, 120fps, high settings just like on my Epic Games version, i noticed it was running slower on the main menu compared to Epic Games.

So i did a benchmark on both versions playing the first chapter (Making sure both playthroughs were as identical to each other as possible) and these were the results i got:

STEAM:
Average framerate : 81.4 FPS
Minimum framerate : 51.9 FPS
Maximum framerate : 117.0 FPS
1% low framerate : 57.7 FPS
0.1% low framerate : 43.4 FPS

Epic Games:
Average framerate : 87.3 FPS
Minimum framerate : 57.0 FPS
Maximum framerate : 117.1 FPS
1% low framerate : 58.0 FPS
0.1% low framerate : 46.5 FPS

Then i tried again with a shorter playthrough and these were the results:

STEAM:
Average framerate : 84.0 FPS
Minimum framerate : 61.3 FPS
Maximum framerate : 117.0 FPS
1% low framerate : 62.7 FPS
0.1% low framerate : 51.4 FPS

Epic Games:
Average framerate : 89.7 FPS
Minimum framerate : 62.6 FPS
Maximum framerate : 117.0 FPS
1% low framerate : 63.3 FPS
0.1% low framerate : 52.3 FPS

Has anyone else noticed this too? And should i get a refund and just stick with epic?
They both have their pros and cons. Steam has more freedom with controller support and playing this game in offline mode but degraded performance on my end whereas Epic is faster but cant use wireless controllers without 3rd party support and needs to be online to play an offline game like this...

Thank you.

The steam version also has significant traversal stutter and In my experience the Epic store version has none.

but why is it so?

it might be a constant DRM check happening. I remember when Borderlands 2 came out for a lot of people who were playing online via wireless the game would lag once every ten seconds because of a constant DRM check until they finally fixed it around a year later.

Made the game stutter a lot.

Just a theory ofc, but its the best I could imagine that would be causing it.

you need to force direct x 11 on steam, idk about epic version maybe or maybe not there

but on steam you just go to this game’s settings and put -dx11 in the extra settings field. that will remove all of your stutter

Steam have problems with Star Ocean Remake, Black Ops 6 and many thousands of games with stutter. Steam is the culprit.

Huh i get constant 120 FPS??

I forgot to mention I did already switch to DX11 so the stutter wasn't an issue here, same with the Epic Games version. It's just the degraded performance that's puzzling me. It's not by much but it still makes no sense and feels like a downgrade if I stop using the Epic Games version. But steam offers more freedom than Epic does....

I think you may be right here. Same with FFXV, that game runs better on EA Origin or Microsoft Store than on Steam.

Should i return the purchase and stick with Epic?
Or just keep it?

steam version is playing ok for me, but i'm thinking of returning it just because the epic vers is $20 cheaper (i bought the digital twin pack for $89. epic has same for $69)

btw, anyone know how to get the extra bonus stuff for buying this twin pack? i got like 2 bangles, and a chocobo chick summons and a cactuar summons. but according to the listing, i should get a magic pot summons and other items too. how to get them please??

The bonus stuff is for Rebirth, not Remake, so you'll get it in January when the game comes out.

My Steam version is running just fine 2K @ 120FPS. Whats your setup?
Brutal_NipTwists Dec 29, 2024 @ 8:47am
So i have an INTERESTING update that yous may find interesting too.
I did more benchmarks as i'm now ineligible for a refund and discovered that DISCONNECTING my PC from the internet brought performance back up! Why that is?
i don't know. Could be something with the DRM that this game has, Anyway, here's the before and after results:

Steam With Internet Connected:
Average framerate : 81.4 FPS
Minimum framerate : 51.9 FPS
Maximum framerate : 117.0 FPS
1% low framerate : 57.7 FPS
0.1% low framerate : 43.4 FPS

Steam With Internet Disconnected:
Average framerate : 86.5 FPS
Minimum framerate : 52.9 FPS
Maximum framerate : 117.1 FPS
1% low framerate : 58.9 FPS
0.1% low framerate : 45.1 FPS

I did multiple playthroughs and PC restarts just in case something else was going on and kept getting the exact same experience. The Epic Games version stayed the same more or less. Pulling in 86.8 FPS today and 87.3 FPS the other day.

Would be interesting to know what's causing this.

maybe it’s a cpu bottleneck and that is how much of your cpu was getting used on wifi

My system is connected via ethernet and has an I7 12700k with an RTX 3070. I tested Silent Hill 2 as well and saw similar behaviour. I don't understand how someones network can cause a performance decrease in 1 way or another. Can someone please explain as iv'e never come across that or anyone else i know has?
