FF7R for sure - FFXVI is incredibly boring, save for the big monster fights - FF7 also plays like a FF, which 16 does not

To each their own, but I've been having an absolute blast with FF16. It's fun trying new combos and stylishly taking down enemies. Maybe i have bad taste, but i really don't get why it gets the hate it gets. i Also love the characters, especially gigachad Sid. It CERTAINLY has its flaws, like lack of other characters to play as. But you get tons of abilities and can switch between elements in real time. It almost feels a bit like DMC.

BUT... with all that said, I STILL think FF7R is the better buy. The gameplay loop is a lot of fun, and the personalities of the characters shine in battle. The way you can customize the characters to your liking to fine tune the battle experience is something i very much appreciated. It feels very badass. The music and atmosphere of the game is something very special. I especially like the combat. The story is also great. A lot of people complained about the story only taking place in Midgar, which is like the first 10% of the original game... but they made it work. You'll see.

I thing both are fun games, but I gaurantee you that you'll enjoy FF7R far more.

16. Remake is for fans of the original. It's also mostly a walking sim. It's worth playing for sure but if you want a "game," 16 is probably the better way to go.

What Eria said is nonsense since both 16 and 7R have the same kind of gameplay.

I will also say go with this game first. I started here with this game and had an absolutely blast. As a bonus, if you end up enjoying this game, it’s sequel is releasing next month on PC.

FF16 is fine, but it can be a major slog at times and the combat isn’t nearly as good as this games.

Final Fantasy lost its identity when the creator left after FF10. To get a good idea of what FF is all about, you should play the remake of one of his best works. So this one.

The demo for 16 is still up, so give that a try if you haven't already. Compare that to anyone's youtube playthrough of Chapter 1 of remake.

I always say to start at the beginning with FFI (the PSP version), or FFIV, when they stopped being experimental and all the standard elements that make a Final Fantasy were established. The PSP version and 3D remake are both equally good.

This is really best played if you played the original FFVII. XVI is a stand alone game.

That said, this is far better than XVI.

XVI, you can probably just turn your brain off and run through. It isn't particularly difficult and the story is pretty basic and spells it all out for you. I guess sans the DLC that I didn't bother with, there was only one question that was somewhat ambiguous at the end. (Personally, I believe they not-so-subtly answered it right then and there in game.)

I really liked the demo of XVI, and then it took a pretty big hit to the level of quality immediately after that. Then after the next chapter or two (the Garuda fight), it straight nose dived. Most of the game felt worse than the part before it.

FFVII Remake, on the other hand, started strong, then had a pretty good ebb and flow. The pacing could be a bit lame at times, particularly if you are a completionist doing all the side content as you go, but it is a pretty satisfying journey, with part 2 (Rebirth) coming to Steam in about a month.

Part 2 is much, much bigger, with much more freedom to explore a large, open zone world.

4,5,6,7 (8,9, 10 are based on a personal preference)
If you really want a new gen FF go for 7 (16 is kinda bad)

If you want a real JRPG don't play any FF after 12.
There are much better JRPG which beat every single FF

Are you a hardcore JRPG fan? if not go play FF15. If you are play FF7R, especially since you never played the original so you will not have any problems with the changes this 'remake' does compared to the original. Just avoid FF13, 13-2, and 13 Lightning Returns.
Just know, even fans agree the side quests are not good and the padding can be a pain. You'll know what we mean once you start playing.

FF16 has different gameplay, because they did that game with the same team at STRANGER OF PARADISE serie. FF16 has a good gameplay and very beautiful sceneries but the gameplay is also so easy and has no various combos, there is boring material in FF16 and it is the dialogues. Those dialogues are very boring...

FF7Remake is also a good game with it's new gameplay mixed together with classic gameplay. Dialogues are good (mostly direct and pure).
Although every series of Final Fantasy has different stories.
You could start to play with FF15 too, if you like open-world style.

I know you dont have it in your list but i really recommend to play an older title for the first time. The games today are different and gives you an other feeling while playing. I recommend playing FF9 as your first. Its lovely, timeless and much easyer to come in the series. Just try it out, you will not regret it.
