Minimap should be banned!
Minimap is good for realtime long distance attack games. But for close combat games, it completly ruins immersion and dilutes the efforts of design and art put by developers to graphics.

It can be turned off. At that point, it's up to the player to decide if they want it or not.

What is 'immersion' anyway?
99% of games now a days are made by developers with the mapmaking balance philosophy of "the players will have waypoints and maps to guide them". Then when you turn off minimaps and waypoints, its just a frustrating experience.

Its often like the devs think that if they just need to give us an option to remove the map and we are satisfied lol. No... We need some way of being guided organically that lets us decide where to go. Painting ledges yellow, letting us tap a scan button to see where to go, making the grass blow in the direction we are supposed to go, having your character talk to themselves telling the player where to go, all great thoughts, but they honestly suck. This was done much better in video games in the past without being so patronizing about how we players figure out where to go.

That being said, I think this game is doing a decent job of organically guiding me. The camera is panning to where party members are talking about, I sometimes follow them directly, I dont need to go TOO close to things before the game realizes I am near the objective. I honestly feel like I have been legitimately considered. Even though I am a rare type of gamer who despises minimaps and waypoints.

I agree, minimaps and waypoints are a cancer on gaming. In the most literal sense that it can possibly be. Give turning the camera off a shot in this game and you might be pleasently surprised. I only check my map (trackpad button) when I am looking for venders.

^ Painting ledges yellow or whatever only really works in ye olde linear 2D games. Way points and mini maps are much better for large 3D environments where you can easily get lost.

exactly man! there even some game with really awesome graphics and you know devs put enough effort on environment but ended up looking at minimaps for 80% of the time! it sucks and it ended up being too boring. what a waste, and saddened at the same time that it has a very beautiful graphics and but ended up not usefull.

Its good that we can turn off minimap in this game.

thankfully it can be turned off, and that is what also makes this game amazing.
