A simple change I want in FF7

I’m just going to be blunt with it.

I adore this game, but I would like the option in this and future FF7 instalments to allow me to play as Aerith while free-roaming, and this would mean she is the first character I’m playing as when entering a battle. She’s my absolute favourite and I adore the caster role in FF games, so I would like to play from her perspective whenever possible.

I think it’s weird we can only play as her for an insanely limited time throughout the FF7 remake, it made no sense to lock us into playing cloud bar the few minutes of gameplay playing as Aerith… Like the times we can play as her, it’s so random.. why not just let us keep her as party leader?

If anyone had an explanation for this please let me know x

It's a trope with jrpgs dating back to the 1980's. Frequent party roster swaps are as ubiquitous to the genre as comically large weapons and vertical hair.

Nearly all of them do it. There are a number of reasons why, most dealing with balancing the game around protag-kun and giving it that shonen manga feel, but at this point a big one is simply tradition.

I get what you're saying though. Aerith is a lot of fun to play as in battle. Spamming Comet Azure from Elden Ring in FF7R is super satisfying.

Aerith (Aeris? or young Susan Sarandon? or Maris from Frasier with a magic staff)... the most overrated character ever. Change my mind.

Tifa was always more of a badass (bigger tits also), Aeris is a creepy frail woman who experiences daily hallucinations and episodes and wasn't fit for the job.

Otherwise surely someone can make a mod that changes the models for that or whatever, changes gameplay around etc.

When I first got the game I thought Tifa would be my favourite, in games such as these I tend to gravitate towards the ‘stereotypically pretty’ characters… but weirdly Tifa just doesn’t interest in me at all, quite a few times I found her annoying by being emotional.

I’m quite surprised that Aerith is more popular? But I reckon that’s because SE did an amazing job making such a likeable character. Also I think people love her so much because of her selfless sacrifice later down the line which just made her more memorable.

Aeriths story and life is also more fleshed out by Crisis Core story as well.

There's a cheat engine table for this game that enables free roam as whoever you selected as the battle leader. However many interactive elements were programmed for cloud only. For example, controlling Aerith and attempting to jump across the tires int eh sector 6 play ground results in an infinite loop of cloud hopping around while Aerith is stuck at the beginning of the tires. It's a bit safer in dungeons, though.
