Yeah Andrea is cringe, at least that's my 1st impression on him. But I think he is not that bad. Beneath that cringe-worthy appearance and behavior (like when he danced with Cloud and almost kiss him), is a nice character and good heart.

Andrea is just explicit in his preferred sexuality but Wedge is vague.

TF you on about?... Appearance and voice typically have little connection to orientation, he isn't even remotely close to the usual gay stereotypes either those are usually effeminate/fabulous theatrical characters like James from Team Rocket.

Wedge is just a friendly chubby guyvoiced by Matt Jones doing his semi awkward cartoon character voice.
Nothing remotely related.

Not necessarily calling you homophobic but it's clear you have a very unusual misconception of what we're like.

No I think in this case they are looking for ways to flesh him out and make him more of a standout character.

In the original FF7 Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie had nowhere near as much screen time.
Also, similar to Cid, Biggs and Wedge are re-occuring names through almost the entire Final Fantasy series. Not the exact characters you see here, but there are characters with those names kicking around somewhere is most games in the series. They are basically throwaway characters. So I think with Remake here, since it's more cinematic, and is an alternate version of the original game and turns what is basically the first quarter of the first of three discs into it's own full length game, the story writers had to add more to them and make them more unique than normal.

If it helps, Biggs and Wedge are always 'wingman' characters. They're Star Wars easter egg names. Vicks from FF VI is actually a localization error that should have been Biggs as well. ;)

Stuff like this has been pretty common in the Japanese community so it's nothing new. You see it in their shows too.
