I think that's unlikely. REMAKE initially had a shorter exclusivity window that was extended by the INTERGRADE DLC and PS5 port. We still don't have FFXVI on PC despite the exclusivity period running out.

I played Remake on PC via... alternate... means until it released on Steam, and I will do the same with Rebirth. Which is why I didn't have achievements in Steam for the first half of the game until I started going back through hard mode.

From a marketing perspective, opting for a shorter exclusivity window with a specific end date likely indicates an attempt to capitalize on the Rebirth hype. A three-month post-PS5 release window for the PC version to capitalize that make sense.

Hence their need to get the game onto PC and to a wider market (or maybe the devs really just want us to make more mods for it they aren't allowed to? lol) as fast as possible to keep sales momentum because lets face it, the only people buying Final Fantasy games are Final Fantasy fans and I doubt "new players" are going to skip remake to play rebirth first. So it makes sense they want to get it onto PC as soon as possible to improve sales....

Here's the catch - I personally believe Rebirth will be an Epic exclusive for the first 6 months again, like Remake before it.

Given their existing deal with Epic regarding the Unreal Engine and the fact Kingdom Hearts 3 is STILL an epic exclusive, this wouldnt shock me. I personally don't care much, a store is a store to me (i own games on EA, UBI, Epic, I think GOG is best since i own those games vs digital licenses like other platforms but thats another topic lol)

Anyway as long as Rebirth is still moddable on Epic like remake was, thats all I really care about and I get to play it in 3 months vs a year.

Still something to think about, since I know many of you won't be happy about this may not be considering it, but based on history...its very real possibility.

Yeah Im hopping also it will be available on June also and dont forget the producer and director said that FF 7 Rebirth will have no DLC if Im not mistaken so fingers cross!

You're very optimistic if you think this will come out this year. I hope it does but I dont see it happening

1 year and a half. For sure.

No one cares which platform a game is on. Stop with the store wars and buy the game where you find the cheapest like a smart consumer.

It's totally gonna be epic exclusive for around one year. Square enix has one trait that is very stable, they are desperate for money and they love exclusivities. I think they are short sighted, I honestly think they shot themselves in the foot with the Kingdom Hearts exclusivity for example, very hard.

Square enix has some principles, they respect their artist to a degree (unlike Ubisoft or EA or Activision, etc.) but they still show huge desperation for money.

And they are always crying that their products are not selling enough. Their expectations are rarely met. Even Final Fantasy XVI was a failure following their logic. They said it themselves.

It smells of insecurity and desperation. Of course it's gonna be epic exclusive.

All my FF games are on Steam. If I have to wait a year+ to get this game on Steam to add to the collection here.... then I'm just going to wait years longer and get it when it's down to around $30-40. If Square wants me to pay full price for their game, they need to stop doing exclusives.

They never brought kingdom hearts. That worries me.

I'm not, Rebirth has undersold Remake on launch apparently (i suspect because remake had ps4 too) but long term sales might be better. So right now SE will want to leverage as much platforms/store fronts as possible for Rebirth sales after exclusivity.

THAT said its also very likely they will probably take a 3-6 month Epic exclusive detail for that sweet exclusive money, than release on steam. The ONLY reason I can imagine this not happening is if Epic doesn't offer an equivalent amount of money by not releasing it on steam immediately too.

More than anything I think this release despite all the great reviews and fan excitement shows why they only had a specific 3 month dated exclusivity with PS5 - they need more sales.
This situation is so weird to me. Square enix is always crying because everything undersell. Everything. But they are always going for these exclusivity deals, like... what the hell do they expect. Despite the appearences, jrpg are a niche genre today, and they rise the prices to the stratosphere and then limit the platforms they release on... and they don't even try to go for all those with the most players.

I mean, Epic and Sony must be giving them a dirty amount of money, so much that they can ignore sales. Because if that's not the case... they are dumb. as. hell.

EDIT: I think with this strategy they are training the community to wait. A few years ago it was incredibly painful to wait for FF7 remake but now it feels natural. Not that I like it, mind you. But it feels easier despite the game looking so good.

It's because we learned. We are being trained by Square enix to wait. Their strategy may be backfiring. At least, for me.

The same strategy that gta devs are currently practicing with gta6

I'd be interested to see actual numbers on Rebirth sales. And no, physical disc sales alone is a useless metric in this day and age.

I wouldn't be surprised if Rebirth sales are lower right now than Remake was at this point in its life cycle. The PS5 install base just isn't that high, and is likely a significant part of the equation.

I don't like the exclusivity, and would much rather have this game on my PC, but, here we are. I guess the controller is cool and I play on the comfy couch. The performance hit isn't so fun though.
who cares. ff7 stillbirth was such an awful game I don't understand how people are so hyped over a mid open world sim full of boring af padding. they messed up every iconic scene, we don't even know if aeries dies because ghosts and timelines.
