Its Aeris, not Aerith
Because Aeris is an anagram for the Greek word sphaira, which is tied to Judaistic belief of Sephiroth word.

And while it is true that in a 1997 Japanese booklet called "Final Fantasy VII Official Establishment File". Aeris was indeed called Aerith. BUT Reno was originally called Leno.
And yet they chose the wrong word "Reno" to be the international one to be canon.

So i proved it.

Aeris is the correct name! The lisp sounding name Aerith is wrong.

edit: For proof for Leno

Proof why Aeris is correct. Its connection to Sphaira being the anagram. Source
(So, let’s start from the beginning. Just as the Hebrew Tree of Life has ten sephiroth (sing. sephirah), the Greek Tree has ten sphairai (sing. sphaira, “sphere”) or arithmoi (sing. arithmos, “number”). Each of these has a name of its own, modeled after the names of the Hebrew Tree. While Michael Strojan has his own naming system, the one I’ve seen first was given in Stephen Flowers’ Hermetic Magic, and written about at length by the Confraternity of the Rose Cross (albeit in a long-winded and sometimes purposefully obtuse series of articles). Those names are:

Arkhē, “First Principle”
Sophia, “Wisdom”
Noesis, “Understanding”
Doxa, “Glory”
Dynamis, “Power”
Agathōsynē, “Goodness”
Nikē, “Victory”
Megalōsynē, “Greatness”
Themelion, “Foundation”
Basileia, “Kingdom”
)

They've chosen to change it to "Aerith" at least since the first Kingdom Hearts in 2002, so railing against Camp Aerith is silly, but you also can't just tell millions of people who played the original 1997 North American release that they are wrong and dumb for keeping Aeris in their hearts, present poster included.
Same with Doctor Robotnik.

It's Earisu

In the Original final fantasy 7. Everyone calls her Aerith and not Aeris.

Not in 1997. They made terrible localizations in Kingdom Hearts games starting from the first game from 2002. And there you go. We have that to thank!

original one was Aeris lol it was annoying at the time knowing it was meant to be Aerith and since games changed online with patches, etc and remasters/re releases it was eventually fixed.
The real original one was the Japanese release, where it was Aerith. So he is correct.

So was Leno not Reno. Cmon we gotta be accurate. Change that name aswell. And while we're at it. Let's change Tidus name to Tida. I mean why not :)

If we're going that route...

"エアリス." It was originally "エアリス." Not "Aerith." Not "Aeris." But "エアリス."

You do kinda have a point. And I am inclined to agree with you that I would rather go with what sounds better. Like with the sounds that just don't translate well to/from Japanese, and especially with the made up names for the games.

Actually, it's エアリス (Earisu.) Everything else is localization headcanon.

Not exactly localization. The Japanese game manual for FF7 wrote Aerith in English next to her name. That would be an official translation from the source.

To be fair, it is linking actual evidence to support what they're saying. Granted, while correct, I think that is a fairly bad way to do it, because that picture doesn't do a good job to prove it is what it is (even though it really is the original Japanese manual).

So, this might be better:

Check out page #6.

Aerith always just sounded like a good name spoken with a bad lisp.
Chuckawookie Mar 20, 2024 @ 11:23am
Aerith is supposed to be the combination between earth and sky, air and lith so Aerith is the correct name.

But Aeris is combination of Sphere and Globe, and is related to the word Sephiroth within kabbalah that the word is based on. So i think its Aeris.

I fancy Aeris more. However, the creators chose Aerith as the official spelling, that means it is the correct one. End of story.

There is no debate.
