Which FF games are worth playing?

Don't know much about the FF series, but wanted to try out 7! Apparently the games are disconnected, as in 8 isnt a sequel to 7, so I don't know if I can just default to the newest ones haha

The games are indeed disconnected, except for some clearly marked sequels and spinoffs (e.g. Final Fantasy X-2 is the sequel to Final Fantasy X).

The ones I personally liked most are VI, VII, VII Remake, X, and XII.

The newest game is Final Fantasy XVI (currently only on PS5) and doesn't require any prior knowledge of the series.

Pick one that most appeals to you, listening to others opinion will often lead to disappointment. Every Ff is special in their own way, along with different negatives. Playing a game that others enjoy but you finding out otherwise can leave bad impressions. Never understood the logic to ask strangers on the internet what games are good to play. (glad I didn't play palworld as another suggested, I knew it was overhyped and not my type)

It depends what you want. Storywise 7,9,10 are most often named as the best but are sadly very outdated (all around 1997-2000). FF1-12 in general have no difficulty at all and are just xp grinds in first place.

If you want a good combat system where skill matters a bit at least with good story look at FF7 Remake and after that maybe FF13 / 15 / 16 which are also new enough from a visual point of view.
