original is to the point and the remake feels the need for constantly adding twists and turns that aren't needed (I do not care about jessies father)
Like I said before, I'm glad that new players can have a fun and more enjoyable way to play a classic but I hope that playing the remake inspires people to give the original a try too because ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ does the remake suck out all the life out of it.
also agreed on the music, I HATED the replacement music for the part with the trek between aeriths house and wallmarket. It sounds awful, doesn't fit whatsoever. Especially with the goofy ass bandits lmao.
I was a bit disappointed with the lack of challenge in the normal playthrough but Hard mode is a lot better and the hidden bosses are no push overs. Weiss is a brute.
The more I played it the deeper it got and the DLC combat mechanics are just a good notch above the already good base game. Yuffie is quite deeper than the other characters but also more tricky and execution intensive than the rest.
The build variety is surprising considering the limited amount of materia (I guess they want to keep some for the later parts) but you can do some crazy stuffs and the mechanical mechanics are surprisingly good. I didn't expect fighting game mechanics like cancels in a square game. Again Yuffie is just a joy to play with.
My only real complaint about the game is how grindy it gets to upgrade all the materias especially in the DLC. Some materias like HP Up are very far from maxed out after full Normal+Hard Mode playthrough. That's BS.
Absolutely. Your thoughts here echo Dunkey's review, probably the best one he's done. It's hilarious and on point.

The comments are gold too.
"The biggest disappointment of this game is the lack of robot hand backstory."
"I still don't understand why Cloud from smash bros needed his own game."
No idea if this explains the odd remaster of the bandit music or if he actually got to work on that one, but perhaps this is the cause.
Tip: Go to chapter 17 or w/e it is with the Simulator near the start of the chapter in Hojo's lab near Chadley (off in side room).
Equip Aerith as the controlled default character, put magnify + fire or lighting (I forget which) on her and hotkey the basic fire spell so you don't have to bother with menu while grinding this spot. Fury Ring may help make her reliably 1-shot with the aoe on all bugs. Also need to give her the materia that grants at least 1 ATB at start of battle.
Start the fight with the swarm of bugs (I forget which match that is) at the start. Press the hotkey combo for the magnify fire and they will die instantly. Quit match after (don't continue, it is slower) and rinse/repeat. If you need gil do the chapter where you raid the garage of Shinra building with Gil Plus equipped. You will make a few hundred thousand gil in mere minutes.
Doing this in the simulator will easily get you to level 50 and max your materia way faster than traditional methods. Maybe pop on Netflix or something on a second monitor while you grind since you're basically just doing like fire > quit > start new match > repeat which requires basically no attention.
IIRC it only has two characters at a time but is still the fastest method.
Sad to hear that.
Incidentally, that part of the game, Midnight Rendezvous was one of my favorite songs. Still gives me the chills. Makes me think of the 90s and looking up at the stars as a kid. Neat how music can do that.
That's what I did in the DLC.
Still took forever.
For levels it's unnecessary. You get to level 50 very quickly after starting hard mode.
also ♥♥♥♥ the anime grunting soundfiles jesus christ, just don't say anything instead of the grunting it's so annoying to hear. I expect it from cloud 'I didn't ask for this' strife but the others don't need it
That's ♥♥♥♥♥♥, ff7 has some of my favourite tracks from any franchise fullstop tbh so it's sad to see him leave.
Though I will admit, like the guy below you says Midnight Rendezvous is great tbh. Certainly fits a hell of a lot better than remade oppressor. Actually feels like it fits perfectly into cloud and aeriths relationship. Not to mention it's perfect tonally and isn't intrusive like oppressor v2.0
Yeah, I'm saddened by it as FF7 original is still my favorite musical work to date as are some of the other FF games. Nobuo truly was capable.
Midnight Rendezvous is pretty cool. It isn't one of my favorites but I enjoyed it, too, especially because it reminded me of what felt like a similar version somewhat related to another song I liked in Xenoblade Chronicles X (especially further into the song, feels like it evolved from it kind of but it predates remake actually). I felt it went well with the mood of Aerith's character trying to pry open Cloud wondering a cool desolate area at night (junk yard) which kind of matches the vibe of this one being at night in a ice/winter coated somewhat barren but a sense of beauty. At least on an inspirational and thematic level, though they're obviously different works.

I am particularly a fan of his excellent work using midi for music.
You beat the Top secret (Bahumut/ifrit + Ramuh + the Robot) vs Yuffie team fight with hardly upgraded materias?
It's a tough fight even maxed out. The only harder challenge is Weiss.
It has been a while so can't remember for sure but pretty sure I also had haste which I used on Sonon to make his ATB generate way faster, along with mine, otherwise his ATB becomes a huge bottleneck for dmg.
Her counter (technically evade) dodge skill which returns some ATB is very good, too. I didn't really have any issues with that fight.
Just a heads up, people misrepresent their single player gaming achievements on boards sometimes. For who knows what motivation.
Ironic coming from you. I remember the thread where you did just that and Xengre, after directly getting called out, proved that they were, in fact, very well above average at difficult games.
Just a heads up, Squee Nix S Hill #26 is the troll formerly known as Ness.

Which really suited its jungle atmosphere with the chaotic layout and multiple levels (including those two insane locations in the air which was pretty unique, with the honeycomb near levitating style area and the hidden area up the waterfall way high up).
Some are hit and miss, but overall Hiroyuki Sawano did really good with tha game's soundtrack. I didn't know until just now looking up who did it he also did tons of anime like Attack on Titan & Guilty Crown. Explains a lot. I definitely prefer Nobuo first though. Crazy to think Nobuo never had formal musical education.
