They have got to seriously fix the party A.I for Rebirth.
Like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ why does Aerith, the ranged exclusive character insist on hugging an enemies ass the whole fight 100% of the time and getting blasted by the most powerful moves.

Genuinely not sure what you're doing, but I've.... Never had that happen. Ever. Is there certain Materia you've got equipped that's changing her actions?
Because the AI in this isn't that much different than in FF12 or FF15.
And if you're adequately actually assigning commands and switching between characters manually (which you should be), there shouldn't be a problem...

The AI, when you're not in control of them, will block as many attacks as possible and attack with their most basic moves. It's YOUR job as the player to keep them alive. Not very hard to do if you understand the combat system.

If you noticed Aerith will stay in the Arcane Ward if you let her cast it. Try to experiment on utilizing on the team. It is recommended that if you have an ATB bar filled for the active character then switch to your next character to fill theirs. Thats just how the combat works.

The A.I should instead be smarter like utilizing the Materia you assign them to like Parry and etc. The Materia system in this game is pretty cool but is weak compared to the original.

I don't know why this got clowns its the truth.
This is closer to a CRPG its real time with pause when you have menus open time crawls to a halt to allow you to command everyone.

I literally explain the combat system and how it works, but get clowns for it. Can't make this up. Guess some folks hate the truth being tossed their way.

Umm, wow, the tutorial portion of the game even made it quite clear you are supposed to be jumping from member to member depending on the situation and telling them to do whatever needs to be done, sort of like a mix of a standard JRPG party system and a realtime system. Otherwise even the first boss could potentially wipe you. I don't know if it's because of all the needless complaints or what but you actually are not supposed to rely on party AI much at all, unlike in XIII or XV. That's why they made it so easy to jump from party member to member, slow the game down, and give orders. It makes the combat much more akin to the classic systems and, strangely enough, even closer to squad based strategy games. I like it a lot, you have to be far more interactive, especially in boss fights, than in the previous games.

Leviathan is a good test to see if people "get" the combat system.

Yeah I don't know why either, that's exactly how you are supposed to play the game. I dunno, there's a lot of dullards out there I guess. They tend to give out clowns a lot because they can't actually type out a counterargument, but they think you're wrong, heh.

In this case there would no counter argument since that's the design of the system in the game. Instead they go "yeah well... shut up!!!"

If I was a beating man the way you responded was far from the most polite that is likely why you got clown emotes but that's just my guess better question who cares if some one gets a clown emote.

The A.I. is really good at blocking and dodging. You must just not be using party wide heals enough.
Giganx Mar 30, 2024 @ 5:56pm
The AI works as well as you need it to mostly because the game lets you spam heals and items to keep them alive. You're correct that they don't do a great job staying out of harms way, though.

I basically refuse to use items because they're such massive overkill, but if you also avoid using healing abilities you do notice how fast the rest of your team gets shredded. Even when the AI is blocking those close range nukes from bosses can take them down in a few hits; and there have been plenty of times I've watched the AI miss-time dodges and take full damage on some brutal attacks.

There is no JRPG ever made in the history of JRPGs where you don't have to cast healing spells or you die, so I mean, there you have it. Especially during boss fights or miniboss fights, your healing character will have to do nothing but heal. That's why white mages even exist.

The problem in this game is that you MUST always switch between characters in order to cast a spell or use an item.

That isn't accurate. As long as the character has ATB to spend, abilities, items, or magic can all be used regardless of your currently active player.
