Because the AI in this isn't that much different than in FF12 or FF15.
And if you're adequately actually assigning commands and switching between characters manually (which you should be), there shouldn't be a problem...
The AI, when you're not in control of them, will block as many attacks as possible and attack with their most basic moves. It's YOUR job as the player to keep them alive. Not very hard to do if you understand the combat system.
If you noticed Aerith will stay in the Arcane Ward if you let her cast it. Try to experiment on utilizing on the team. It is recommended that if you have an ATB bar filled for the active character then switch to your next character to fill theirs. Thats just how the combat works.
The A.I should instead be smarter like utilizing the Materia you assign them to like Parry and etc. The Materia system in this game is pretty cool but is weak compared to the original.
I don't know why this got clowns its the truth.
This is closer to a CRPG its real time with pause when you have menus open time crawls to a halt to allow you to command everyone.
Yeah I don't know why either, that's exactly how you are supposed to play the game. I dunno, there's a lot of dullards out there I guess. They tend to give out clowns a lot because they can't actually type out a counterargument, but they think you're wrong, heh.
In this case there would no counter argument since that's the design of the system in the game. Instead they go "yeah well... shut up!!!"
If I was a beating man the way you responded was far from the most polite that is likely why you got clown emotes but that's just my guess better question who cares if some one gets a clown emote.
I basically refuse to use items because they're such massive overkill, but if you also avoid using healing abilities you do notice how fast the rest of your team gets shredded. Even when the AI is blocking those close range nukes from bosses can take them down in a few hits; and there have been plenty of times I've watched the AI miss-time dodges and take full damage on some brutal attacks.
