personally I found that the sidequest is not enough compared to most FF games, JRPG has always been filled with sidequest
The core issue was UE4 and last gen consoles was too limiting. This wont be an issue in episode 2 & 3 as they are next-gen and PC only with open world segments as officially confirmed. How open we don't know though. It also might run on UE5 but that has not been confirmed unlike the open design.
The entire episode 1 is going to be largely linear story oriented so if you don't like it you might want to pass, or struggle through it for episode 2 and 3 but if you hate it in the remake then odds are you hated the original, too.
The Kingdom Hearts "nonsense" has hardly any relation to this game. I think you are confused...
Yeah, their complaint is rather ironic.
