Why is it said that the English voice acting is bad?

I don't know English well and I played with English voice acting, it really suited the characters. Of course, there was Japanese, because I like Japanese voice acting, for example, Yakuza or Persona, but in this game I didn’t like Japanese voice acting at all, I didn’t feel the characters and I didn’t care what they said.

This is blatantly untrue. The English VAs are great for being largely inexperienced, but the vocal direction is pretty bad and is vastly different in intent than what it was originally meant to be.

Aerith's VA explains this in detail in regards to her weird laugh in the sewers. Conflicting directions that don't at all match what was originally intended. And this isn't even unique to this game, Square Enix has historically had this issue with their localization, at least in English. A LOT of jokes and interactions feel awkward because they're lost in translation.

What I'm saying is, the VAs aren't the problem, they're actually pretty good. It's the localization and vocal direction that is the problem.

As a person who likes to watch his animes in JP dub, because I find most English dubbed animes unbearable to listen to, Final Fantasy 7 Remake didn't make me cringe. Infact, I think the English voice acting was great and Im more comfortable listening to it in english than in Japanese. Plus, I want to understand what they're saying while im occupied watching the goodness of the visuals.

japanese voices used to be superior back in the day when english voice acting was pretty bad for eastern titles!

now that we have caught up alot since then, i am actually enjoying english VA more!
it's great to see eastern titles choosing english voice actors with different accents, it adds greatly to certain characters like cait sith!

my only issue is English voice actors are really hit or miss, though i do think it's gotten better over time but japan just has overall "more" better va's

So you're one of those people who think because you and your "friends" don't attack people for liking dubs, that it must obviously not happen at all. Alright then.

Unfortunately your friends do not make up the entire fandom and it most certainly is common occurrence in the anime fandom.

Dub fans have dealt with elistist attacking them for decades and declaring that they're not really anime fans at all because you can't be a fan of Japanese products unless you watch it in Japanese and praise the actresses. It's silly elitism. I've been in the anime fansub scene since 2005 and have seen that time and time again in the fandom.

Hell this very thread was created because of that very quote being read, which is evidence enough that it does in fact happen.

Just those who love Japanese voice acting and hate other voice acting are the worst people on earth. I have already seen many times how good the voice acting is in my native language, but an “anime expert” will still say that it is bad and the translation there in a nutshell is incorrect. Only “anime experts” don’t see anything other than subtitles, and then they go to forums to tell us what a great anime they watched.
