Does equipping two same materia do anything?
For example two steadfast block on one sword, does that make SB more potent?

No, only HP/MP/magic/luck up stacks up to a certain limit.
The only other way of stacking is pairing multiples of magic materia to different supports. If you have fire+magnify and another fire+absorb for example you will have both magnify and absorb effects on each use. But the fire itself wont get any stronger.
