World map
So, am i understanding correctly that this game is basically only the opening parts of the original game, just Midgar? No world map to run around on and explore?

Correct. Midgar (massively expanded) without a world map.

It's the plot rewritten with their "clever" play on words. It's also saying what they have released officially on their channels about "Rebirth" that it's a new journey after Midgar. None of the plot of FF7 has been spoiled.
It would've been easier to just say FF7 Remake is a Remake and Sequel all in one....
