DS4 Support is weird.
Lemme tell my story, and explain why it makes me so angry.
This game is NOT cheap. It's expensive even if they put any sales in it.
For a game this expensive, you would THINK it would be at least compatible with Steam configuation support for other controllers, but no. It is not.

So here's the deal. I have a DS4 and it works wonders in many games. The Steam Configuration support for DS4 helps the controller to be recognized by older games, and makes every single part of the controller works as intended.

Indie games allows you to choose your button prompts in the configurations, why take that from the player, right? But Square loves to make them games recognize what you're using.

I use the controller via Bluetooth, so if I turn off the DS4 configuration support as they ask, the game don't catch my controller AT ALL. If I turn on, I get the Xbox prompts.

I tried all of the alternatives, but before I list them let me make clear here: I burned two DS3 controllers by using them directly on the USB of my PC, both front and back of it. So, no, I will NOT put my controller directly on the USB, especially for a game this expensive that should give me more than what it gives in configurations for controllers.

Anyway, I tried mods: work up to a point nicely, but starts breaking the game and giving me crashes randomly because of them.

I tried using DS4 Windows, but for some reason DS4 windows make the trackpad become a full mouse, so a CLICK in the trackpad which would be the equivalent of the game to think I'm doing a click on the mouse. So far I can't figure it out how to disable that.

I tried doing the option to change from Xinput to Wirelesss but that mess everything up.

Anyway, I'm just baffled how little support this game ACTUALLY gives for DS4 and DS5 controllers that uses Bluetooth instead of wired, comparing it with most Indie games, and most games in general that at least let me add mods without freaking out for some weird reason. The pricetag of this game is high, and it really annoys me that an option to just change the icons of the controller is not a thing. The game have the files but it doens't let me choose it, they want the game to chose it for me, and frankly I'm so tired of this on triple A games. They need to step up and take the quality up a notch just like every single indie game does. It's such a simple option. Let people choose. It's not hard.

Played it just fine with both a PS4 and PS5 controller via Bluetooth and got PS button prompts. Didn't need to change any settings or anything on my end either.

But if you're having problems, you can use the fanmod that forces PS button prompts always.

I play exclusively via Bluetooth with, originally, a PS4 controller but now PS5 controllers. I've used both for this game and play via DS4Windows (cause I have it on epic and not here and haven't added to library, plus DS4Windows is good enough for me).

I can't remember if the controls show Playstation prompts or Xbox but I'd advise you to just get used to Xbox prompts because, tbh, this isn't even close to the only game that does the Xbox prompt preference. Most games do this and if your experience has been otherwise its just you've been purely lucky. PC has only more recently st arted to get proper support from Sony and Microsoft for PS controllers which is why its so far behind. Developers are used to PC controllers being Xbox and thus just use those button inputs in most cases plus how Steam/DS4Windows handle it depending on your configuration (ex DS4Windows will simulate an Xbox controller if configured as such, not sure if that is still the default setting though) also reinforce this problem. I suspect it will be several more years before we see more even support for PS controllers.

Regarding the touchpad issue I believe the setting that you are looking for in DS4Windows is in the controller profile > Other tab > Enable Toggle Touchpad closer to the bottom.

I've never tried it but I'm hearing DualSenseX is really good, too, if you have a PS5 controller. I just haven't bothered to check it out, myself.

Funny, for me the epic version had a huge issue where the left stick would fling the camera in the same directions I moved. Turned out Steam's controller support was messing with it but once I turned that off it worked no problem. Of course I have the Playstation Now app so maybe that helps? But yeah it's been stupid how games that came out on PS have had little to no DS support.
